Senior Cup - Semi Final
Tigers tame Robins and deservedly book Senior Cup Final date with West Dragons
Johnston 4 – Pennar Robins 0
A brilliant second half performance by Johnston earned them a thoroughly deserved victory over Pennar Robins at the Conygar Bridge Meadow on Thursday evening.
The Tigers led 1-0 at half time, thanks to Luke Hayward making no mistake from the spot and they dominated the second period, where Adam Hawkins grabbed a superb brace and substitute Martyn Tweedie added a late fourth to ensure they meet West Dragons in the final, that will take place at the same venue on Saturday, April 6th.
However, Pennar Robins dominated early on with Richard Hughes squandering their best scoring opportunity, the centre back missing from only eight yards out with a volley.
Robins pay the penalty
The Tigers broke the deadlock on 26 minutes when they were awarded a penalty as Robins' defender Mikey Powell brought down James Skudder inside the box.
Luke Hayward kept his composure to find the bottom of Stuart James' right hand corner and score against the run of play.
Hawkins scores twice
After the break the Tigers pressed for a second goal and were rewarded when the added a second on 74 minutes. A route one ball by keeper Martin Langdon fell to Hawkins in acres of space; the striker ghosted past keeper Stuart James and he planted the ball home. Hawkins added his second of the game three minutes later. A similar move put the striker in on goal and he neatly tucked the ball home.
Martyn Tweedie added a fourth goal three minutes from full time, Hawkins assisted with a deft flick and the substitute showed terrific composure to drill in from 12 yards out and complete the scoring.
