Newcastle Emlyn Ladies used their heads to go four points ahead of Port Talbot in the Women’s Welsh Premier League as the whole team played well against very experienced opposition.
There was early frustration from Emlyn Ladies as it took them a while to adapt to the wet weather conditions during which Port Talbot’s Claire Daley took advantage and scored the opening goal in the sixth minute.
But the second half saw Emlyn as the better side as they took control of the game, making fewer errors and playing good football, creating more chances. On the 74th minute a well-deserved goal finally came for Emlyn as Mari Griffith scored a header from a corner kick.
It took Emlyn just two minutes to get their second, created by Marie Davies, who delivered another superbly-placed corner which was thumped into the back of Port Talbot's net from a Sam Gaunt header.
