PILCS 3 - Newcastle Emlyn Ladies 3

Newcastle Emlyn Ladies were away to PILCS in their first game after Christmas in the Shared Access Women’s Welsh Premier League and did well to come away with a draw in difficult playing conditions.

PILCS opened the scoring very early in the game via Lindsey Davies but Emlyn equalised shortly afterwards with a superbly taken free kick courtesy of Marie Tilley. Both sides were battling hard in the conditions, with different styles of play, but it was PILCS that again took the lead via a well taken Amy Thrupp goal so the half time score was 2 – 1 to PILCS.

Emlyn made two substitutions at half time – Bethan Roberts for injured Josie Bellars and Cez Hawkins came on for Vicky Prior in goal.  They started the second half with good intent and were rewarded with a goal from Mari Griffiths to level matters.

Unfortunately,  Emlyn’s Carys Davies got injured with 30 minutes left to play minutes to play and so Emlyn brought on veteran Deb Wise - but with slight changes needed to playing positions Emlyn conceded another goal from Davies to make it 3 – 2 to PILCS.

Emlyn showed great character and fought their way back into the game and after 80 minutes Mari Griffiths scored again for Emlyn to make it 3 – 3. Both sides had chances to take the three points but it was not meant to be and in the final analysis perhaps a draw was the fairest result..
Before the game there was a minute’s silence following the passing of Mrs Angela Harries (wife of Newcastle Emlyn AFC President - Mr Ainsley Harries).
