Women’s Rugby Super Cup:

Llandaff North 62 - Whitland 15

It was always going to be a tough ask travelling to the best team in Wales but the Borderettes never gave up trying and made Llandaff work for every score, so much so that the Llandaff coach felt it had been their toughest game of the season.Borderettes well beaten

Whitland, with a much changed line up from the previous week, were forced to play forwards Natalie Walsh, Catherine Davies and debutant Jenny Collins in the backline and eighteen year old Sally Windsor at hooker.

The first half was a keenly contested affair but with Llandaff No 8 Becky Newton making some barn-storming runs and Mared Evans at outside half in fantastic form they were always in control, but they didn’t have everything their own way.

Borderettes battle hard

Although the Cardiff girls scored four  converted tries in the first half the Borderettes scored two of their own, the first after Walsh had intercepted in mid field, crashed through a tackle and put ‘Player of the Match’ Jenny Collins in for her first senior try.

The second try was probably the best of the game, after good work by Beca Norris, Lowri Morgan and Ali Griffiths crashed up the mid field before the ball was moved wide and quick hands from Walsh and Collins put Angharad Williams in for the try.

During the second half the Whitland girls were playing with the wind behind them and Rachel Norris pinned Llandaff back with some good tactical kicks. The Borderettes’ third try came after good line out ball was moved wide to Williams, lurking on the wing to score her second.

Strong subs’ bench

At this stage the Llandaff coach put all his subs on, everyone a current Welsh International. The Whitland girls never gave up and some fantastic scramble defence kept out wave after wave of attack before the defensive line finally broke in the last ten minutes and Llandaff ran in several tries. The Borderettes next game is home against Caernarfon on Sunday 30th , with  kick off at 2.30pm.
