Win doubles for The Dock and Haverfordwest as experience pays off

The third round of matches in the Ladies Indoor League took place at The Hub in Neyland and experience certainly paid off as Pembroke Dock and Haverfordwest won both their matches against St Ishmaels and new recruits Carew - but both of those defeated clubs will quickly improve as they are sure to train regularly and are coached well.

Again a pleasing aspect of the evening was the support given by umpires and scorers, who included Peter Kingdom, Emma Hicks, Clarissa Lewis, Toby Asson, Jackie Goodwin, Nick Daley, Johnny Lewis, George Smith and organiser Sam Rossiter, the league organiser who was there to see things went so smoothly and deserves a huge pat on the back for her commitment.

Pembroke Dock - showed their batting strength in depth

Match One: Pembroke Dock (95 for 0) beat Carew (36 for 2)

Carys Lloyd - showed her all-round skills for The DockPembroke Dock batted first and were soon into their run-making via Cheryl Hughes and Abi Price, who retired on 25 and 28 respectively before Carys Lloyd (24 not out) and Lana Jones (8 not out) took them to 95 without loss as there were also 10 extras.

Alisha Watkins, Samara Hicks and Lucy Buckley both bowled one good over apiece but with 17 threes and a few fours The Dock showed their good running between the wickets and ability to pace their innings as the runs piled up late on.

In sharp contrast, half of the balls faced by Carew failed to produce any runs as Lana Jones bowled a maiden over in her 0 for 6 alongside Hughes (0 for 9) and Carys Lloyd (1 for 10), who  also bowled excellent line and length alongside Abi Price and Lydia Thomas - and only Jackie Goodwin (13 not out) managed double figures for Carew.

Carew - two defeats but will soon adapt

Match Two: Carew (54 for 3) lost to Haverfordwest (55 for 0)

Carew built a slightly bigger score in their second game, against Haverfordwest, as Lily Buckle scored 14 and Katy Chandler-Hall showed her cricketing pedigree with an excellent 25 before she had to retire but they found it hard going against Jo Price (1 for 8) Angela Tilley (14) and Awen Prysor (0 for 11).

Then Pam Asson utilised her depth of experience to good effect as she opened The Town’s innings with a classy 25 alongside an undefeated 23 from Awen Prysor. Jo Price finished things off with a quick-fire 8 not out as they needed just 5.4 overs to reach their target.

Match Three: Pembroke Dock (94 for 1) beat St Ishmaels (45 for 6)

Pembroke Dock again showed their ability to build a big innings as openers Cheryl Hughes and Carys Lloyd both scored 26 before retiring. The onslaught continued as Sian James (22 not out and Rachel Sander (19 not out)  helped their side hit two boundaries and 20 threes as they finished the innings after Abi Price was the only Dock batter  to be removed when Poppy Kucyj bowled her as part of her 1 for 24 spell, whilst Linzi Picton also bowled a useful two overs.

St Ishmaels found it hard going against the accurate bowling of Lana Jones (1 for 12) alongside Cheryl Hughes (0 for 10), Carys Lloyd (1 for 6) and Abbie Price (who conceded just two runs in her first over but was hit for 16 runs later as Tish last batter Tracy Chandler rapped two fours and a straight six in her speedy 23 not out.

Poppy Kucyj opened with 12 for Tish but was bowled by Lana Jones, unlike all five of her team mates, who were run out and so they had to settle for 45 all out despite Chandra’s fine knock.

Two wins for Haverfordwest after tight bowling

Match Four: St Ishmaels (44 all out) lost to Haverfordwest (45 for 1)

Three of the Tish batters reached double figures against Haverfordwest but The Town’ eased home for the loss of a single wicket in only 3.3 overs.

Tracy Chandra (10), Linzi Picton (13) and Poppy Kucyj (10) all batted sensibly for Tish but faced more accurate bowling by Leila Egelstaff (1 for 9), Joe Price (1 for 5) and Awen Prysor (0 for 9) and again there were four run outs as Tish could only manage to use 5.5 overs.

Lynn Ward came into the Haverfordwest team and again looked the part with 29 before she retired and Pam Asson managed 12 before she was bowled by Tracy Chandra, whose one over went for only 4 runs.

It meant that The Town were worthy winners but as usual Tish Ladies couldn’t be faulted for their enthusiasm.

St Ishmaels - as enthusiastic as ever and never gave up trying
