Pembrokeshire U13s (119 all out) lost to Mid Glamorgan U13s (120 for 6)

Venue: Neyland Athletic Club

Pembrokeshire’s talented under 13 players learned a lesson about needing to use all their allocated batting overs as they lost against a strong Mid Glamorgan team in bright sunshine at a beautifully prepared Neyland Athletic Ground

Useful runs but wickets fall

Pembrokeshire won the toss and skipper Geraint Rees elected to bat on a good track. Opener Max Brindley scored 27 with James Davies adding 17 but Pembrokeshire’s batsmen played too many rash shots and wickets fell regularly against a steady, if not spectacular, Mid Glamorgan bowling attack. A useful knock of 28 by Kyle Williams with Ewan Griffiths (6) scoring his first runs for the county, meant Pembrokeshire totalled 119 all out after batting for only 30 of their allotted 40 overs.

Hard to defend total

This was always going to be hard to defend but some useful bowling by Pembrokeshire, particularly James Davies, Harri Dunn, Max Brindley and Geraint Rees, meant that Mid Glamorgan wickets also fell at regular intervals. A fine innings by Liam Davies (54), before being run out by Iori Hicks, proved to be crucial and only a seventh-wicket stand of 35 allowed Mid Glam to reach the required total.
Che Thomas (1 for 10), Curtis Hicks (1 for 22), Harri Dunn, (1 for 14 on debut), Geraint Rees (1 for 13) and James Davies (1 for 22) were the wicket takers in a match where it was a case of nearly, but not quite for Pembrokeshire.

Targets set for next match

Coach Andrew Williams will be hoping that in future  his batsmen will look to bat for longer innings and not try to force the pace too soon. The bowling and fielding was much tighter than in the previous game against Gwent, but he will still be looking to reduce the number of short balls bowled in the next match. This will be at Whitland CC on Tuesday, 28th May, when Cardiff & The Vale will be the opposition.
