U15's Regional Cricket:
Carmarthenshire (141-9) lost to Pembrokeshire (145-4)
Venue: Pwll C.C.
Pembrokeshire U15's played their first league game against Carmarthenshire, who had already beaten West Glamorgan the previous week, and came away with a deserved six-wicket win from a good all-round team effort.
Carmarthen were asked to bat and economic bowling spells from Greg Thompson (0-15) and Thomas Pritchard (0-9) saw Carmarthen reach 28 without loss in the 11th over before Jack Parkinson took the first wicket with the aid of an excellent catch at slip by Tomos Lewis.
Pembrokeshire apply good pressure
Kurtis Marsh tied one end down with his slow stuff, ending with excellent figures of 4-21 in 9 overs whilst George Williams (2-16) and Geraint Jones (1-10) kept the pressure on. Jack Parkinson took an excellent catch at deep mid wicket and Jacob Knox also took two good catches. A number of Carmarthenshire batsmen reached double figures including I Paske (13), Lewis Bing (13), C Davies (19), J Weeds (19) & E Thomas (20). However no one went on to make a big score and in the 33rd over at 89-8, Carmarthen were in big trouble. But the last wicket put on 51 runs as perhaps Pembrokeshire took their foot off the gas, thinking the game was over so that Carmarthen finished on 141-9 in 45 overs.
Bevan bats really well
Pembrokeshire lost Kurtis Marsh (9) in the seventh over, but Scott Jones and Dafydd Bevan ran exceptionally well between the wickets, putting on 60 runs before Jones was caught for 33. Bevan was joined by Jack Parkinson and the pair advanced the score to 121 in the 35th over, before Dafydd was bowled for a well deserved 51, including six fours. Geraint Jones stroked the final nine runs with Parkinson, who remained on 27 not out as I Paske (2-13), C Davies (1-24) and B Williams (1-12) were the Carmarthen wicket takers.
So it was an excellent start to the league season for Pembrokeshire, with some very good bowling, fielding and catching, followed by a sensible run chase.
