Division One Cricket - 22nd June 2013

Neyland extended their lead at the top of the table to 36 points as they fended off a strong challenge from Lawrenny before winning by 19 runs.

Neyland were asked to bat first and were soon in trouble at 20 for 3 but Nathan Banner helped their situation as he scored 26 before he was bowled by a full toss and Neyland continued to look vulnerable at 54 for 5 before Patrick Hannon and Andrew Miller joined forces. They enjoyed a productive partnership of 113 in which Hannon hit five fours and two sixes in his 61 before he was stumped by Hugh Griffiths off Steve Lewis. Miller had seven boundaries in his undefeated 45 as Rob Williams (3 for 27), Jamie Lewis (1 for 46) and Steve Lewis (2 for 42) were the pick of the Lawrenny bowling attack.

Lawrenny’s reply relied heavily on Brad McDermott-Jenkins as he slammed seven fours and six sixes before he was out looking odds on to get a century, and only Hugh Griffiths and Steve Lewis, with 17 apiece, stayed long at the other end as Neyland fielded well to build up pressure.

Nathan Banner bowled really well for Neyland to claim 5 for 37 alongside Anton John (2 for 23), Andrew Miller (2 for 34) and Gary Lloyd (1 for 24) and Lawrenny were dismissed 20 runs short of victory with two overs still in hand.

Llanrhian (119 for 4) beat St Ishmaels (118 all out)

Umpires: Dave Brandon & Dai Morris
Scorers: Jason Cole & Wendy Bradshaw
Division One Cricket - 22nd June 2013

Llanrhian belied their bottom spot in the table as they gained a comfortable six-wicket win at Llandigige Fawr against second-placed St Ishmaels.

Put in to bat first, Peter Bradshaw (27, including two fours and a six), Andrew Palmer (22) and Dan Flynn (20) were the only Tish batsmen to stay long at the crease as Chris Arundel led the Llanrhian bowling attack with his excellent figures of 5 for 29 alongside Matthew Bennett (2 for 21), Luke Jones (1 for 47) and Jack Jones (2 for 13) so that the visitors were bowled out for 118 in 37.4 overs.

Ben Jones (11) and Nigel Delaney (15) managed double figures early for Llanrhian as Jonathan Pawlett (2 for 32) and Andrew Williams (2 for 29) reduced them to 69 for 4 but then Geraint Morris and Luke Jones shared an unbroken 50 stand that saw Llanrhian home in 34.1 overs. Morris had three fours and a six in his 41 not out and Luke Jones provided the perfect support with three boundaries as he remained unbeaten on 21 at the end.

Morgan does well all round for The Town

Whitland (163 all out) lost to Haverfordwest (167 for 6)

Umpires: Tony Scourfield & John Austin
Scorers: Janice Webb & Jayne Cole
Division One Cricket - 22nd June 2013

Nigel Morgan showed what an all-round asset he has become with Haverfordwest as the former Dinas and Fishguard player grabbed three wickets at Whitland and then saw The Town home with 34 not out in a late stand of 50 with another key player in Adam James.

Batting first, Whitland looked to be in trouble at 104 for 6 in 35 overs but Dylan Blain (four fours and a six in his 40), Ed John (15), Owain Evans (37) and Adam Davies (22 not out) redressed the balance against Adam James (3 for 30), Josh Wilment (2 for 51), Nigel Morgan (3 for 13) and Clive Tucker (2 for 47) as Whitland ended up on a respectable final tally of 163 all out.

David Dunfee took early wickets after tea in a 3 for 36 spell, supported by Iestyn Scourfield (2 for 25) and Steffan James (1 for 25) ,but Ben Field (26) and Dan Cole (37) got Haverfordwest back on track again before Morgan and James (31 not out) saw them home. They were assisted by a huge tally of 28 extras that included five penalty points for the ball hitting a helmet left lying on the field!

Morgan makes Cresselly tick in run-fest

Cresselly (226 for 4) beat Narberth (223 for 4)

Umpires: Allan Hansen & Richard Merriman
Scorers: Dave Richards & Peter Hughes
Division One Cricket - 22nd June 2013

There was a real feast of runs at Cresselly as Marc Hughes again batted superbly in taking Narberth to a big score but then talented youngster Matthew Morgan carried his bat to an unbeaten century as Cresselly eased home by six wickets.

Narberth lost Ritchie Adams for ten runs but Marc Hughes carried on from his imperious innings of 155 a fortnight ago with an equally impressive score of 135 not out in which he not only stroked ten fours but also struck seven big sixes as Narberth sped to 223 for 4 at the end of their 45 overs.

He was joined in an excellent unbroken stand of 118 by Ben Quartermaine, whose 60 not out included five fours and two sixes, as Sam Harts (2 for 40) and Sion Jenkins (1 for 61) were the only home wicket takers.
Morgan found a willing ally after tea in skipper Phil Williams (20) as Cresselly set off in pursuit and there was further support from Andrew Harris (21), Damian Arthur (40), Iwan Izzard (15) and finally Nick Davies (10 not out) as Morgan had 12 fours in his 112 not out. It was made from 44 overs as Ben Hughes was unusually expensive for Narberth with figures of 1 for 82 alongside Ollie Cook (1 for 28) and Wayne Howells (2 for 21).

Matthew Morgan - unbeaten century as Cresselly beat Narberth

Both sides so close to victory

Carew (168 for 5) drew with Llangwm (165 for 8)

Umpires: Rob Bellerby & Peter Perry
Scorers: Ceri Davies & Janice Brick
Division One Cricket - 22nd June 2013

There was a nerve-jangling finish at Carew in their match against Llangwm as the last over saw both teams still in with a chance of victory but having to settle for a draw as Carew’s Matthew Phillips bowled the final delivery with Llangwm needing four runs but unable to score even a single.

Put in to bat first, a late flurry of runs gave Carew a respectable final total of 168 for 5 after they had stood at 133 for 3 in 41 overs, with Brian Hall leading the batting with 50 not out (three fours and a six), plus support from Nick Scourfield (28), skipper Robbie Hicks (38) and Rhys Davies (16). For Llangwm, the best bowling figures came from Andrew Harries (2 for 42), Phil Llewellyn (1 for 35) and Steve Mills (1 for 47).

Llangwm looked strong at 123 for 3 in 36 overs but then they lost Steve Inward (49) and Steve Mills (46), both hitting five boundaries but getting out at vital times against James Hinchliffe (3 for 25), Rhys Davies (2 for 38) Steffan Davies (2 for 35) and Matthew Phillips (1 for 18). Andrew Harries (21) and Will Beresford (18) also contributed to the Llangwm cause but they were unable to snatch victory as Matthew Phillips kept his head with that fateful final delivery – and in the final analysis perhaps a draw was the fairest result

Brian Hall - unbeaten 50 for Carew
