Kieran kills off Lamphey hopes

Haverfordwest 2nds (113 for 6) beat Lamphey (109 all out)

Division Two Cricket Reports 6th July 2013

Although Lamphey could only muster 109 all out on The Racecourse they were still in with a shout until talented teenager Kieran Griffiths’ classy 31 not out in a stand of 50 with skipper Richard Scriven saw The Town home by four wickets.

The earlier basis for the home side’s success came with their bowling  as South African pace man Avron Roulston looked sharp in his 4 for 25, and might have had five but for a dropped catch. He received support from old-timers Micky Phillips (2 for 43) and Matthew Vaughan (3 for 19) as only David Blackwell (21), Gianluca Tremarco (20) and Grant Cole (14) ever stayed long for Lamphey.

Mikey Jones (18) and David Haynes (16) gave The Town a solid start but then Hywel Gibbs bowled well with his 3 for 45 and found support from Steve Vale (2 for 25) – but then Kieran Griffiths stayed composed to steer Haverfordwest home for a deserved win and condemn Lamphey to their eighth win from nine starts.

Dai Davies showed what an accomplished cricketer he is with both bat and ball as he scored 104 notout and took three wickets to help section leaders Saundersfoot power their way to another big win, this time against a plucky Carew 2nds led by Haydn Shapcott.

Davies had 12 fours in his undefeated century and he was backed up well by Simon Wood (66) and James Caine (47) as brothers Luke and Lewys Hicks had respective figures of 2 for 55 and 2 for 43 for Carew.

Davies then claimed 3 for 22 in cahoots with skipper Simon Wood (3 for 44) and slow bowler James Caine (2 for 31) as only Shapcott (35) and Chris Cole (43) ever looked settled for Carew Seconds as they were bowled out in the 33rd over.

Sutton steers Burton to vital victory

Whitland 2nds (188 for 6) lost to Burton (189 for 6)

Umpire: Dave Brandon
Scorers: Ann-Marie Jenkins & Mark Venables
Division Two Cricket Reports 6th July 2013

A splendid century by Phil Sutton helped Burton to victory at Whitland and left the home club’s second string regretting the fact that they had been bowled out in the 44th over and Burton won off the fifth ball of their 46th over!

Wayne Jones provided the backbone to Whitland’s innings as he rapped 13 fours in his 64 alongside Paul Webb (25) and Connor Bowen (19), whilst former first team skipper Matthew Davies made a welcome return from a leg operation with 24 not out.

For Burton, their wicket-takers were led by veteran slow bowler Steve Jones (4 for 25) along with Johnny Scale (2 for 40), Mark Griffiths (1 for 29), Morgan Scale (1 for 34) and Jack Davies 92 for 29)

Sutton had 13 fours and two sixes before he was adjudged lbw to Stuart Harries (3 for 36) and shared a decisive second-wicket stand of 144 with Richard Hayman (42) before Morgan Scale (23 not out) saw Burton home, despite useful bowling by Harries and a wicket apiece for Geraint Phillips, Geraint Jones and Raff Williams.

High-scoring draw at Cresselly

Cresselly 2nds (230 for 8) drew with Johnston (214 for 9)

Umpires: Richard Merriman & Mervyn John
Scorer: Des Brace
Division Two Cricket Reports 6th July 2013

There was a high-scoring draw at Cresselly as their second team reached 230 for 8 before Johnston replied with 214 for 9 as their tail-enders survived the last few overs to dent Cresselly maximum points.

Cresselly’s innings was centred on a 141 partnership between Alex Bailey (77, including 10 fours and four sixes) and Scott Arthur, who smote 11 fours and two sixes in his 71, plus 22 from George Wilkins. The pick of the Johnston bowlers were Steve Mills (2 for 38), Chris Fitzpatrick (2 for 8), Simon Williams (1 for 5), Steve Jenkins (1 for 15) and Lee Scourfield (1 for 30).

Johnston raced to 110 in 15 overs as Lee Summons led the way with 79 (seven fours and a six) but then the Cresselly bowlers slowed down the run rate so that despite useful innings by Paul Hood (26) and Gary James (25) the visitors were still 17 runs short at the finish, thanks to Cresselly skipper Matthew Lewis (2 for 37), Harry Thomas (2 for 47), Tom Arthur (1 for 54) and Wilkins (1 for 29).

Pembroke power to late win

Stackpole (199 all out) lost to Pembroke (253 for 7)

Umpire: John Williams
Scorer: Claire Cox

Rob Weston was the hero of the hour for Pembroke as he bowled Hugh Davies in the last over of a high-scoring clash so that Pembroke retained a firm interest in the promotion stakes after beating Stackpole by 54 runs.

Pembroke’s final tally was built on useful innings by Phil Hay and Ceri Brace (both with 51), Paul White and Weston (both 23), Barry Evans (21) and James Skeels (16) as R Davies ((4 for 77), Richard MacKay (1 for 48), Huw Cox (1 for 57) and Chris Gibbs (1 for 24) were the Stackpole wicket-takers.

Richard Lewis (54) and John Davies (51) batted well for Stackpole alongside James Adie (25) and Gibbs (19) but Weston claimed 4 for 56 and was well supported by Sean Powell (2 for 37) and Ceri Brace (2 for 23) as Pembroke pouched maximum points.
