Umpires:  Dave Brandon & Rob Cousins

Scorers:  Malcolm Thomas & Wendy Bradshaw

An excellent innings of 64 not out by Phil Cockburn helped St Ishmaels to an impressive seven wicket success at Lawrenny.

Cockburn had seven boundaries and shared an unbroken stand of 95 with Andrew Williams that was the focal point in Tish’s success.

Hugh Griffiths top scored for Lawrenny with 40 runs alongside Joe Kidney (22), Andrew Cole (17), and Patrick Elliott (15), with a final score of 161 all out. Robbie Thomas maintained his impressive run of bowling form for Tish with figures of 3 for 5, supported by Matthew Phillips (1 for 31), Jonathan Pawlett (3 for 45), Andrew Pawlett (1 for 31), and Andrew Williams (2 for 34).

Peter Bradshaw and Dan Howells opened with 13 each for Tish and Jonathan Pawlett (23) to set up the Cockburn/Williams partnership – and although Rob Williams (2 for 37) and Steve Lewis (1 for 26) tried hard for the home side it was Tish who were good value for victory.

Neyland (68 for 4) beat Saundersfoot (64 all out)

Umpires:  Denis Chiffi & John Williams

Scorers:  John Laugharne & Adge JohnDivision One Cricket Reports - 31st May 2014

The fastest finish of the day in the top echelon undoubtedly came at Neyland as the home side hustled out a 10-man Saundersfoot outfit for 64 and although they lost four wickets reaching their target the homesters were always in control.

Nathan Banner was the main strike force for the champions as he bowled with pace and accuracy in his seven overs (three maidens) to return figures of 5 for 9, ably assisted by Henry Durrant (2 for 21), Andrew Miller (1 for 8) and Nick Koomen (1 for 6).

‘Mr Extras’ topped the batting with 17 and there was 16 for James Morgan as Saundersfoot never recovered from 19 for 6, with  skipper Paul Mansbridge and James Caine as  two key batsmen dismissed for ducks.

To be fair to Neil Powling (3 for 18) and Morgan Slate (1 for 24) the Seasiders battled hard, and Simon Stanford showed total commitment in the field – but steady innings by Gregg Miller (19) and Ashley Sutton (18) was followed by 21 not out from Nick Koomen, including the winning boundary when the scores were level.

Cresselly get the better of high-scoring derby draw

Carew (187 for 6) drew with Cresselly (198 for 6)

Umpires: Trefor Evans & Steve Blowes

Scorers:  Julie Davies (Carew)

Matches between those old rivals are traditionally hard fought and this latest local derby was no exception as Cresselly built up a challenging total which Carew looked likely to pass at one stage when Nick Scourfield and Simon Wood were going strong in a stand of 145.

Division One Cricket Reports - 31st May 2014But Cresselly applied the squeeze in the field and Carew were unable to manage the 16 runs needed from the final over – but were never in danger of defeat.

Cresselly’s early runs came from captain Phil Williams (44), Iwan Izzard (16) and Simon Cole (20) as they stood at a less than happy 95 for 5 but then this season’s newcomer Mike Shaw (41) and debutant Brad McDermott Jenkins (transferred from Lawrenny) doubled the score as the latter top-scored with 53 to show what an asset he is going to be.

Ceri Brace (2 for 42) and Sean Whitfield (2 for 27) led the Carew bowling attack after recent respective returns from Pembroke and Saundersfoot, whilst cousins Rhys (1 for 37) and Tom Davies (1 for 58) were the other Carew wicket-takers on the day.

Tom Murphy confirmed his growing maturity with a 4 for 47 haul for Cresselly, supported by Stefan Jenkins’ 2 for 35, but Wood (five fours and two sixes in his 73) and Scourfield (three fours and a six in his 67) kept Carew in with a chance throughout.

Llanrhian halt Whitland hopes of victory

Llanrhian (161 for 9) drew with Whitland (210 for 7)

Umpires:  Allan Hansen & Rob Bellerby

Scorers: Janice Webb (Whitland)

Llanrhian held out for a draw in a tense finale at Llandigige Fawr after Rhys Own Price stood strong in the last three balls of the final over to deny an eager Whitland side crowding around the bat.

Whitland batted steadily to go past the 200 mark thanks to Owain Evans (46), Geraint Jones (36), Ed John (23) and Scott Newton (35 not out).

They finished up on 210 for 7, a very useful score, as Luke Jones (1 for 60), Dominic Wright (2 for 30) and Jack Jones (3 for 61) were the main bowlers for the home team.

Paul Lewis then showed what an asset he is for Llanrhian after his move to the area from Cardiff, stroking six fours and five sixes in his 82 as he shared a fourth-wicket stand of 129 with Jack Jones (44) in the only partnership of note for the home team.

Dan James (1 for 39), Mark Lee (1 for 21), Scott Newton (3 for 32) and David Dunfee (4 for 55) were the wicket takers for Whitland – but they couldn’t take that all-important final scalp!
