Phil Sutton scored a sparkling 62 not out for Burton

Veterans Phil and Steve show class is ageless

Burton (203 for 7) beat Haverfordwest 2nds (148 all out)

Umpires: Les Hastings

Scorers: Ros Phillips (Haverfordwest)

Burton veterans Phil Sutton and Steve Jones showed why they are in the Welsh over 50s team as Sutton kept their innings together with a classy 62 not out that was liberally sprinkled with boundaries and then Jones spearheaded their bowling with a 5 for 20 haul to break the back of the Haverfordwest innings.

Burton got off to a bright start via youngsters Richard Jones and Jack Davies, who put on 59 before Davies departed for 23 and Jones slammed 11 fours in his belligerent 48 as James Morris was the pick of The Town bowling with 2 for 34.

Rob Neill (16), Neville Davies (13) and Jonathan Whitticombe (14) all played cameo roles in support of skipper Sutton as he took them to a healthy 203 for 7.

David Haynes (32), Mikey Jones (19) and especially Josh Hicks, who had five fours and four sixes in his 53, all batted well for The Town 2nds but with Jones posing all sorts of problems and getting support from Johnnie Scale (2 for 46) and teenager Jack Davies (2 for 19), it was Burton who ended up worthy winners by 55 runs.

Johnston jolt Whitland with massive margin

Whitland 2nds (44 all out) lost to Johnston (362 for 4)

Umpires: John Austin & Robert Ridge
Division Two Reports 24th May 2014
Scorers: Ann-Marie Jenkins (Whitland)

Johnston smashed Whitland Seconds for a mammoth 362 for 4 wickets before shooting the bemused opposition out for a paltry 44 runs to leave a winning margin of 318 runs, surely the biggest-ever in local league cricket!!

Johnston’s amazing tally left local pundits wondering if there had ever been a bigger final total in a league match as Whitland bowlers were under the cosh virtually from the outset as Daniel Sutton contributed a speedy 39 before

Steve Mills and Lee Summons shared a massive partnership of 216, the latter blasting nine fours and two sixes before he was finally dismissed for 89 runs.

Ross Dewstowe chipped in a typically aggressive 29 not out but it was Mills who did most of the damage as he sped to 162 not out, an innings of huge power which contained no fewer than 20 fours and four very big sixes.

Spare a thought for the Whitland bowlers as they toiled hard, with their wicket-takers being Matthew Webb (1 for 53), Paul Webb (1 for 78) and Dai Lee (1 for 64).

Even worse was to follow for Whitland, despite double figures from Matthew Webb (12) and Raff Williams (11), as

Steve Jenkins’ left armers earned him figures of 3 for 21 alongside Rhys Dalling’s excellent 5 for 16 haul. Gary James then grabbed the last two wickets without conceding a run in his only over and Whitland’s torment was finally over.

Steve Mills - hit a massive 162 not out for Johnston

Llangwm play well to win at Treleet

Pembroke (168 for 9) lost to Llangwm (169 for 7)

Umpires: Richard Merriman & Dave Loosmore

Llangwm played well to beat fellow promotion hopefuls Pembroke in a top-three clash at Treleet where Chris Inward featured with bat and ball.

Inward claimed 5 for 27 in 12 overs of sustained pace as Rob Weston (38), Phil Hay (36) and Paul White (26) were the principal Pembroke run-gatherers as Ollie Davies (2 for 53), Phil Llewellyn (1 for 31) and Richard Brock (1 for 25) also picked up a wicket apiece for the visitors.

Weston also topped the bowling charts for Pembroke with 3 for 36 in nine overs alongside skipper Sean Powell (2 for 39) and Jack Harries (1 for 21) but Luke Brock (42) and skipper Joseph Kiff (30) built the platform before Inward (16 not out) joined James Venables (26 not out) in hitting off the winning runs to keep Llangwm firmly at the top of the table.

Cresselly 2nds cruise to local derby win

Cresselly 2nds (139 for 5) beat Carew 2nds (138 all out)

Umpires: Huw Davies & Rob Elliott

Scorers: Des Brace

Cresselly Seconds gained a comfortable local derby win over their counterparts from Carew as they reached their target with five wickets and overs in hand.

Carew were asked to bat first by canny Cresselly skipper Matthew Lewis and their final tally owed much to Chris Cole (39) and Dafydd Bevan (31), assisted by 15 from Neil Gregory. Sam Harts (3 for 21) and Ryan Lewis (3 for 20) led the Cresselly bowling, with support from skipper Lewis (2 for 24) and a slightly more expensive 2 for 47 stint from Steve Thomas.

Neale Williams led the Cresselly counter-attack before he fell just one run short of a half century, with good support from Rhydian Rees (19) and Alex Bailey (31) before ‘old timer’ Ryan Lewis steered them home with a 14 not out cameo, despite useful bowling by Joel Reed (3 for 22), Luke Hicks (1 for 36) and Johnny Harries (1 for 9)

Skipper Holder bowls Hook to victory

Llechryd (104 all out) lost to Hook (105 for 3)

Umpire: Dai Morris
Division Two Reports 24th May 2014
Hook captain Matthew Holder was his team’s bowling hero as he claimed 6 for 31 to help shoot out Llechryd for 104 runs before Hook reached their target for the loss of only three wickets.

Michael Carter batted well for Llechryd with top score of 41 but Holder was joined in the wicket-taking stakes by

Wayne Griffiths (2 for 10) and Brad Flood (1 for 21). Jamie Phelps (20) and Brennan Lay (27) gave Hook a start and after Griffiths had also managed double figures it was left to Tom Blaxland (16 not out) and Jake Wicks (23 not out) to hit off the winning runs.
