Lee Summons struck a superb undefeated 145 for Johnston in their win at home against Pembroke
Summons stars as Glebelands Gang win well
Johnston (245 for 5) beat Pembroke (155 all out) by 90 runs
Umpires: Allan Hansen & Robert Ridge
Scorer: Emma Summons
Lee Summons was the undoubted star of Johnston’s big win over Pembroke in a top-five battle between two teams with aspirations towards promotion, scoring a massive 145 not out which included some massive hitting, and following it up with a 3 for 7 haul from his medium pacers.
Summons has been in a rich vein of batting form and he continued his run glut with an amazing ten sixes alongside 12 fours that left him unbeaten on 145 at the close of the Johnston innings. He shared a stand of 103 with his father John, who scored 24, with another useful knock by Dan Sutton (superbly caught by Paul White for 41) as the other major run-maker.
Jonathan Rogers (2 for 53), Rob Weston (1 for 54) and Sean Powell (1 for 85 as he faced Summons Jnr at his most powerful) were the Pembroke wicket-takers as they really chased leather in the final stages.
Skipper Powell (25), Jonathan Rogers (21), Barry Evans (20), Phil Hay (20) and Jack Harries all enjoyed cameos but no-one was able to stay very long against Lee Summons, Simon Williams (2 for 18), Steve Mills (2 for 23), Gary James (1 for 33), Steve Jenkins (1 for 20) and Rhys Dalling (1 for 20) as Johnston made a concerted push to the top of the section table.
Town Seconds celebrate first success
Haverfordwest 2nds (127 for 3) beat Llechryd (125 all out) by seven wickets
Umpires: Glyn Pawlett & Mervyn John
Scorer: Ros Phillips
Haverfordwest Seconds were able to celebrate their first win of the season as they comfortably accounted for a Llechryd side firmly ensconced at the foot of the table and now having lost five matches on the trot.
Richard Connolly claimed 2 for 18 as the leading Llechryd bowler but he lacked support against Richard Scriven (15) and Mikey Jones (68 not out, including 12 boundaries) before Adam Raymond (27 not out) joined Jones in an unbroken 75 partnership to steer Haverfordwest 2nds safely home in only 27 overs.
Nigel Morgan took two wickets for Haverfordwest 2nds who beat Llechryd
Carew Seconds win at a canter
Carew 2nds (198 for 7) beat Whitland 2nds (79 all out) by 119 runs
Umpires: Dave Brandon & Rob Elliott
Scorers: Ann-Marie Jenkins (Whitland)
Carew Seconds beat their counterparts from Whitland in some style as they batted first, knocked up a big score and then shot out the opposition to win by a massive 119 runs.
Dafydd Bevan (54), Luke Hicks (42), Haydn Shapcott (36) and Dominic Hicks (18 not out) formed the back bone of the Carew innings as Leighton O’Connor led the Whitland attack with a 3 for 22 haul and there was a wicket apiece for Matthew Webb, Stuart Harries and Jack Bowen.
Veterans Dai Lee and skipper Paul Webb both scored 18 when Whitland batted and there was also double figures for Wayne Jones (15) and Bowen (14) but no-one was able to stay long enough to build a big innings against Joel Rhead (3-35), Jonathan Harries (2-20), Neil Gregory (2 for 7) and James Hinchliffe (3 for 2) as Whitland were shot out in 32.2 overs.
Burton hold out for a draw
Hook (208 for 3) drew with Burton (145 for 8)
Umpire: John Williams & Ian Phillips
Burton managed to hold on for a draw at neighbours Hook but it was the home side who claimed the lions’ share
of the points as a result.
Tom Blaxland and Jamie Phelps got Hook off to a cracking start with an opening stand of 78 before Phelps was dismissed for 42. Blaxland finally fell to the wily slow stuff of Steve Jones for 70 (ten fours) and after Matthew Rowlands had chipped in with 12 runs a lively unbroken stand of 77 in only eight overs from Jake Wicks (36) and Bradley Flood (34) launched Hook past the 200 mark against Jones (2 for 41) and Johnny Scale (1 for 34).
Toby Hayman (42) was joined by Neville Davies (33 not out) as the main run-gatherers for Burton but they were rarely up with the required run rate against the accurate Andrew Thomas (3 for 34) and Hook skipper Matthew Holder, who returned excellent figures of 4 for 8, leaving Burton still 63 runs adrift at the conclusion of their 45 overs, but with two wickets still in hand.
Opener Jamie Phelps scored a steady 42 for Hook
Llangwm gain the better of the draw
Llangwm (192 for 4) drew with Cresselly 2nds (165 for 6)
Umpires: Rob Cousins & Tony Waldeis
Scorers: Janice Brick & Des Brace
Will Beresford anchored the Llangwm innings with 39 runs and Richard Brock added an aggressive 43 but it was young skipper Joseph Kiff who looked the pick of the Llangwm batting with a classy 78 not out that included five fours and five big sixes.
Sion Jenkins (1 for 38), Richard Harris (2 for 37) and Steve Thomas (1 for 22) took wickets for Cresselly but at tea-time Llangwm had settled on 192 for 4 wickets.
Harris scored 76 (11 fours and two sixes) and had solid support from the returning Adam Chandler (48) but tight bowling by Chris Inward (2 for 12 in 10 overs), joined by Ollie Davies (1 for 32) and Phil Llewellyn (2 for 44) limited Cresselly’s progress so that they held on for the draw.
