Jones boys steer Llanrhian to victory

Narberth (135 all out) lost to Llanrhian 138 for 3 by seven wickets

Umpires: Trefor Evans & Dai MorrisDivision One Reports 7th June 2014

Scorer: Peter Hughes & Richard Howell (both Narberth)

Good performances by Ben and Jack Jones helped Llanrhian beat Narberth at the Lewis Ground as the home side were bowled out for 135 and Llanrhian passed it with seven wickets and overs aplenty to spare.

Sam Mills (38), Mike Scale (32) and Andrew Williams (16) were the main run gatherers for Narberth after they had been asked to bat first, with Jack Jones leading the Llanrhian attack as he claimed 4 for 12 alongside Gareth Davies (2 for 34), Matthew Bennett (1 for 20), Luke Jones (1 for 26) and Dominic Wright (1 for 35). There was also an interesting moment when Geraint Morris took a catch on the boundary, with debate over whether he had stepped over the rope – but the catch was given.

Then Ben Jones carried his bat throughout the Llanrhian innings with a patient 58 not out, sharing a stand of 66 with Gareth Davies (30) that set them well on the way. Matthew Johns (2 for 30) and Kamal Sharma (1 for 32) tried hard to get Narberth back into contention but Dominic Wright’s 32 runs helped ensure a Llanrhian win.

Narberth's Mike Scale is clean bowled

Runs galore in local derby draw

Cresselly (244 for 8) drew with Lawrenny (231 for 7)

Umpires: Huw Davies & Richard Merriman

Scorers: Dave Richards & Malcolm Thomas

There were almost 500 runs scored at Cresselly in their local derby against Lawrenny before stumps were drawn with the visitors having bravely chased in vain a target of 245 for victory, both sides having to settle for a draw.

Cresselly skipper Phil Williams looked in fine fettle from the outset and was the lynch-pin in his team’s 244 for 8, scoring exactly half of their total as his undefeated 22 included seven fours and seven sixes. Brad McDermott-Jenkins scored 45 against his former team-mates (five fours and two sixes) before he was bowled by Alistair Edwards and Harry Thomas also chipped in with a neat 36 against Rob Williams (2 for 51), Edwards (1 for 63) and Steve Lewis, who was the pick of the Lawrenny bowling with 3 for 25.

Lawrenny’s chase owed much to Andrew Cole, who had two fours and five sixes in his 70 and James Buckle (four fours and five sixes) but both got out at key times. Cole shared an opening stand of 64 with Hugh Griffiths (23) and then Buckle which took them to 160 for 2 but then Simon Cole’s slow stuff earned him figures of 4 for 35 alongside Brad McDermott-Jenkins (2 for 29) and Lawrenny ended up out of time, with another 14 runs needed and three wickets left.

James jolts sorry Seasiders

Saundersfoot (46 all out) lost to Haverfordwest (50 for 1) by nine wickets

Umpires: Les Hastings & Rob Bellerby

Scorers: Adge John & Jayne Cole

Saundersfoot’s sorry season so far continued at home to table-topping Haverfordwest as they lost by nine wickets and the match was over well before tea-time as Adam James did The Town damage with the ball and Ben Field steered the visitors home in only eight overs.

The Seasiders looked a little groggy as they stood at 45 for 5 but then things went from bad to worse as they lost their last five wickets for just one run.

Adam James was again the major strike force for The Town with splendid figures of 5 for 14, ably assisted by Dai Davies (3 for 22 against his former team) and Clive Tucker (2 for 4) as only James Caine (22) and Jack Franklyn (14) managed double figures for Saundersfoot.

Ben Field looked in good nick for Haverfordwest as he stroked two fours and three sixes in his undefeated 33 and although Jack Franklin bowled Simon Holliday for 14 it wasn’t long before Field and Davies hit the winning runs so the teams could have an early tea with the result already decided!

Carew coast to another big win

St Ishmaels (177 for 9) lost to Carew (178 for 2) by 8 wickets

Umpires: Arthur Brady & Dave Loosmore

Scorers: Wendy Bradshaw & Julie Davies
Division One Reports 7th June 2014
Carew continued their excellent run of form after losing early matches because of the weather, successfully chasing down St Ishmaels’ score of 177 for 9 with the loss of only two wickets and with 7.5 overs in hand.

Peter Bradshaw showed what an asset he is for St Ishmaels as he top scored with a classy 72 (eight fours) and he shared in a first-wicket stand of 92 with Dan Howells, who has developed into a good opener and rapped 44 before was out. The only other Tish batsman to stay long was another unsung hero in the side in Robbie Thomas (16 not out) as Rhys Davies led the Carew attack with a 4 for 37 haul.

There was also a wicket apiece for Tom Davies (1 for 42), Sean Whitfield (1 for 26), Rob Scourfield (1 for 14) and Simon Wood (1 for 29) as Tish finished their allotted 45 overs on a useful score of 177 for 9 wickets.

But Carew showed their batting power as Ian Sefton (nine fours in his 48) and Nick Scourfield (who held the innings together with eight boundaries in his undefeated 58) showed why they are still the best opening pair in the county.

Simon Wood (23) and Tim Hicks (a speedy 26 not out that included five fours) helped take Carew through to victory, with a Tish wicket each for Jonathan and Andrew Pawlett.

Tish's Dan Howells shared a first wicket stand of 92 with Peter Bradhaw

League champs go joint top of the table

Whitland (134 all out) lost to Neyland (237 for 9) by 103 runs

Umpires: Peter Perry & Tony Scourfield

Scorers: Janice Webb & John Laugharne

Neyland joined Haverfordwest at the top of the table as they proved far too strong overall for Whitland in a comfortable win by 103 runs.

Nathan Banner has been in good form with the ball for Neyland but again provided proof that he is a very strong all-rounder as he helped Neyland from 50 for 3 to a healthy 237 for 9 by scoring an excellent 86 that included 10 fours and three sixes.

Andrew Miller (25) and Henry Durrant (another hard-hitting 40) also featured as Dan James and Scott Newton were the principal wicket-takers for Whitland with respective figures of 4 for 55 and 4 for 60, whilst Geraint Jones bowled well for his figures of 1 for 22.

Kevin Pearce led the Whitland batting with 49 before he fell to wily off-spinner Gary Lloyd, who claimed 2 for 11 alongside Patrick Hannon (2 for 41), Henry Durrant (1 for 20) and Andrew Miller, whose slow stuff bamboozled the
Whitland batting line-up in an excellent 5 for 30 spell.

Geraint Jones (21), Jonathan Thomas (18) and Owain Evans (14) were the only other Whitland batsmen to manage double figures as they were dismissed in 38.2 overs to earn Neyland maximum bonus points.
