Dewstowe smashes Llangwm bowling

Llangwm (140 all out) lost to Johnston (146 for 5) by five wickets

There is no more destructive batsman on his day than Johnston’s Ross Dewstowe, as Llangwm found to their cost when his powerhouse 82 not out eased his side to a comfortable five wicket win with 21 overs to spare in this top of the table clash.

He came to the crease with Johnston struggling on 37 for 4 in eight overs and shared in an unbroken stand of 87 with Rhys Dalling (21 not out). But then the ball flew to all corners of Pill Parks as he belted four fours and seven sixes to totally swing the game around.

When Llangwm batted they had lost Alistair Platten a little unluckily early on as a ball from Steve Jenkins rolled down his pad and onto the stumps – and although several batsmen started well they were unab

le to stay long and it was left to Luke Brock (four fours and two sixes in his 40) and skipper Joseph Kiff (five boundaries in his identical score) to help Llangwm to a final tally of 140 all out as Steve Jenkins (1 for 23), Rhys Dalling (2-21), Steve Mills (2 for 38), Simon Williams (2 for 28) and Lee Summons (2 for 5) picked up wickets for Johnston.

Dan Sutton (19) was the only early Johnston batsman to look comfortable after tea against Ollie Davies (3 for 4) and Chris Inward (2 for 35) – until Dewstowe strode to the wicket and changed things totally in Johnston’s favour to take them 29 points clear at the top of the table!

Carew cash in early against lowly Llechryd

Carew 2nds (43 for 3) beat Llechryd (42 all out) by seven wickets

Umpire: Richard Merriman

Llechryd’s season continued to disappoint as they travelled to play Carew 2nds, were shot out for a paltry 42 and then watched the home side take just over eight over to reach their target for the earliest finish of the day in this section.

Only Mark Newell (13) scored double figures for Llechryd against Dominic Hicks (4 for 15 in eight overs), Joel Read (3 for 14), James Hinchliffe (2 for 8) and Neil Gregory (1 for 0).

Lewis Hicks led the Carew response with 27 not out and Haydn Shapcott reached nine before looking to finish things with a big six but got himself out in the process.

But it mattered little because Carew were good value for victory whilst Llechryd are still seeking a first win after eight games.

Cresselly cruise home as The Town take a tumble

Cresselly 2nds (80 for 2) beat Haverfordwest 2nds (79 all out) by eight wickets

Umpires: Rob Cousins & Tony Waldeis

Scorers: Des Brace & Ros Phillips

Division Two Reports 14th June 2014Haverfordwest Second produced a lacklustre batting display against their counterparts from Cresselly and paid the inevitable price as the home side won by eight wickets in only 20 overs.

Only Kashif Ijaz (36) looked likely to stay long against the experienced slow stuff of  Ryan Lewis (4 for 8) and the nagging accuracy of Richard Arthur (3 for 11) alongside the more youthful Tom Arthur (2 for 8) – and the visitors could have few grouses about recording such a low score.

It was hardly likely to trouble a strong Cresselly batting line up so that although there was a small measure of success for James Morris (1 for 29) and Ryan Lewis (1 for 13) in The Town attack it was Scott Arthur (37 not out) who guided Cresselly to a convincing victory with support from Neal Williams (17) and Rhydian Rees (16).

Burton batting too strong at Treleet

Pembroke (184 for 9) lost to Burton (185 for 3) by seven wickets

Umpire: Trefor Evans

There were runs galore at Treleet as Pembroke batted well to reach 184 for 9 but then a Whitland side, inspired by Neville Davies’s batting, made fairly light work of chasing down that total.

Pembroke captain Sean Powell led his team’s batting by example with 66 runs (nine fours and three sixes) alongside Rob Weston (five boundaries in his 40), Jonathan Rogers (18) and Jack Harries (15) as Johnnie Scale (3 for 30), Joel Dixon (3 for 62), Jack Davies (2 for 23) and his brother James (1 for 24) were the Burton wicket-takers.

Toby Hayman opened for Burton with a stylish 64 (12 fours) and Neville Davies followed his sons Jack and Jamie’s earlier useful performances with a commanding innings of 82 not out that contained 12 boundaries as only Jonathan Rogers (2 for 37) and Jack Harries (1 for 43) could pouch any wickets for Pembroke.

Borderers’ battling spirit pays off

Whitland 2nds (265 for 5) beat Hook (186 all out) by 79 runs

Umpires: Denis Chiffi & Mervyn John

Division Two Reports 14th June 2014Scorers: Chris Holder & Ann-Marie Jenkins

Whitland Seconds’ batting produced a very high score at home against Hook and then their bowlers toiled hard to dismiss their opponents in a very high-scoring tussle.

For Whitland, there were very useful contributions from Wayne Jones (64) and Leighton O’Connor (27) before Connor Bowen (57 not out) and Raff Williams (34 not out) shared an unbroken stand of 72 at the end as Jamie Phelps (2 for 47), Andrew Thomas (2 for 72) and skipper Matthew Holder (1 for 62) claimed wickets for Hook.

David Hopkins (39), Brennan Lay (24), Jake Wicks (23), Harry Morris (28) and skipper Holder (29) all made useful contributions after tea but Geraint Phillips (2 for 32), Dai Lee (2 for 22), Connor Bowen (1 for 9) and especially skipper Paul Webb (4 for 42) took wickets at key times to earn Whitland maximum points as reward for their efforts.
