Carew coast to local derby success

Carew (103 for 0) beat Lawrenny (101 all out) by 10 wickets

Umpires: Les Hastings & Rob Cousins
Scorers: Julie Davies & Malcolm Thomas

Carew completely dominated their local derby tussle with Lawrenny as they got on top early on in the field and shot the visitors out for only 101 runs before speeding to their target without loss in only 17 overs.

James Buckle (15), Andrew Cole (12) and Johnny Mathias (13) all made steady starts for Lawrenny but Tim Hicks bowled superbly as he grabbed 5 for 9 in 12 hostile overs to put the skids on their innings. Rhys Davies (2 for 39 in 12 overs), Simon Wood (1 for 21 in eight overs) and Rob Scourfield (2 for 12 in 3.3 overs) provided Hicks with the necessary support and although Joe Kidney (31 not out) batted well against his former colleagues the final target of 102 runs to win was not considered overly challenging.

And that is just the way it turned out because Carew raced away after Sefton was dropped early on and made Lawrenny pay with seven fours and four sixes in his 66 not out, with Nick Scourfield as the perfect foil with five boundaries in his undefeated 33.

Cresselly crush depleted Llanrhian

Cresselly (140 for 2) beat Llanrhian (139 all out) by 8 wickets

Umpires: Trefor Evans & John Austin
Scorer: Dave Richards

Division One Reports 28th June 2014

Llanrhian arrived at Cresselly without a few key players and paid the price as Cresselly followed up a narrow win at Llanrhian on the opening day of the season with this comprehensive home success.

Richard Read was the sole Llanrhian batsman to stay long as he batted really well for his 79 (11 fours) as only Luke Jones managed double figures in the rest of their batting line-up against the highly talented young Tom Murphy, who took home excellent figures of 5 for 14 alongside the more experienced medium pacer Stefan Jenkins (3 for 38).

Cresselly skipper Phil Williams opened with 19 and another talented teenager in Harry Thomas also departed early to leave Cresselly on 36 for 2 but from there on Matthew Morgan and Brad McDermott-Jenkins took complete control in an unbroken stand of 104.

Morgan had ten fours in his rock-solid 60 not out and McDermott-Jenkins smashed four big sixes and four fours in his unbeaten 53 to steer Cresselly home in double-quick time.

Narberth win with plenty to spare

Saundersfoot (121 for 6) lost to Narberth (123 for 1)

Umpires: Allan Hansen & Richard Merriman
Scorers: Adge John & Peter Hughes
Division One Reports 28th June 2014
Narberth were good value for victory as they limited Saundersfoot to a less than satisfactory 121 for 6 in their allotted 45 overs before Ritchie Adams and new recruit Nathan Evans guided Narberth to within sight of success with an opening partnership of 96.

After being asked to bat first Saundersfoot found it very hard going against Ian Hughes, who claimed 3 for 15 in 12 overs, and Ben Quartermaine (who didn’t claim a wicket but only conceded 14 runs in 11 overs, seven of them maidens).

Kamal Sharma (2 for 41) also bowled well and only James Caine (18), Steve Cook (24) and skipper Paul Mansbridge (34) ever looked likely to score runs in the Saundersfoot cause.

Adams led the way for Narberth after tea with eight fours in his 53 not out and Nathan Evans, previously with St Clears, looked likely to make a half century on debut but was out on 48, with nine fours to his name.

But by then the result was more or less settled and Narberth were good value for victory whilst the struggling Seasiders find themselves even further adrift at the foot of the table.

Ritchie Adams - undefeated half century for Narberth

Neyland show true grit at Tish

St Ishmaels (87 all out) lost to Neyland (125 all out) by 38 runs

Umpires: Arthur Brady & David Loosmore
Scorers: Wendy Bradshaw & John Laugharne

Division One Reports 28th June 2014For the second week in succession Neyland showed the true grit that makes champions as they came back from scoring a disappointing 125 all out at St Ishmaels to shoot out the opposition and win by a health 38 runs!

Neyland had solid innings from Ashley Sutton (31), Paul Murray (16), Andrew Miller (16), Nathan Banner (15) and Nick Koomen (14) but no-one could go ahead and reach a big personal score against the bowling of Jonathan Pawlett (1 for 25), Matthew Phillips (1 for 18), Andrew Pawlett (1 for 13), Andrew Williams (4 for 35) and Kevin L Bowen (2 for 29).

Tish must have felt they had a realistic chance at tea of becoming only the second side to lower Neyland’s colours but they also lost wickets at key times so that only Peter Bradshaw (12) and Andrew Williams (11) were joined by 17 year old Brennan Devonald (24, including two fours and two sixes) in double figures against Nick Koomen (2 for 26) and Nathan Banner (2 for 18).

Then Henry Durrant joined the fray, took two wickets in his first over and another three in his fourth over to record special figures of 5 for 6, and Tish were shot out to give Neyland another deserved scalp!

Henry Durrant grabbed 5 for 6 to help Neyland stay well on top

Town take Whitland to task

Whitland (76 all out) lost to Haverfordwest (77 for 2) by 8 wickets

Umpires: Dave Brandon & John Williams
Scorers: Janice Webb & Jayne Cole

Division One Reports 28th June 2014Haverfordwest recorded the quickest victory of the day in the first division as they shot out Whitland for a paltry 76 and eased home by eight wickets after opening bats Simon Holiday (37 not out) and Dai Davies shared an opening partnership of 53 to make sure there were no alarms in The Town team.

Davies was run out for 28 and the in-form Jonathan Strawbridge departed for a duck but Ben Field (13 not out) strode to the wicket and with Holliday eased Haverfordwest to the double since they had beaten Whitland by just one wicket at home.

Iestyn Scourfield (29) had top scored for Whitland but the only real support came from Paul Davies (14) and Jonathan Thomas (18) as opening bowlers Adam James (4 for 34) and Josh Wilment opened the bowling for Haverfordwest before Clive Tucker (1 for 11) and Nigel Morgan (3 for 2 in only seven deliveries) wiped up the home team tail-enders.

Nigel Morgan - quick wickets in Haverfordwest's easy win at Whitland
