Griffiths guides The Town to a vital victory
Haverfordwest 2nds (97 for 1) beat Carew 2nds (96 all out) by 9 wickets
Umpires: John Austin & Mervyn John
Scorers: Ros Phillips
An excellent five-wicket bowling spell by veteran Nigel Morgan and an excellent unbeaten innings from Kieran Griffiths, just back from his school year at Millfield, were the undoubted highlights of Haverfordwest Seconds important basement win over their counterparts from Carew.
Haydn Shapcott and Scott Richards both scored 30 early on for Carew as they shared a stand of 49 against Simon Williams (1 for 27) and Josh Hicks (3 for 36) but then Morgan wrought havoc in a 5 for 7 spell and Kieran O’Connor grabbed the final wicket without conceding a run as Carew collapsed to 96 all out.
Haverfordwest then started really well as David Haynes (28) played the anchor role effectively and 15 year old Griffiths showed his class in a partnership of 76 before Haynes was removed by Harry Cook. Griffiths had ten fours and a six en route to his 65 not out and he was joined by another student in Nitin Mathias as they saw The Town home by nine wickets.

Pembroke battle to late victory
Llechryd (164 all out) lost to Pembroke (165 for 7) by 3 wickets
Umpires: Trefor Evans & Huw Davies
Pembroke eventually beat Llechryd by three wickets but not before the bottom-placed club in division two took them all the way and at one stage were in with a chance of their second success of the campaign.
Weston also topped the batting chart with 31 runs, supported by Paul White (22) and Phil Hay (21) against James Henneker (2 for 18) and ‘golden oldie’ Peter Betterley (2 for 22) and Sean Powell (18).
At 130 for 7 Pembroke were looking a little shaky but then Andrew Price stepped in with 23 not out at a key time – and Pembroke made the long journey home with a welcome win.

Hook hold on for a losing draw
Hook 139 for 7 drew with Cresselly 2nds (205 for 6)
Umpires: Dave Loosmore & Glyn Pawlett
Scorers: Des Brace (Cresselly)
Hook held out for the losing draw at me to Cresselly Seconds but because they were unable to get anywhere near their opponents’ big score they actually secured fewer points than some teams which actually lost!
Alex Bailey is currently in top form for Cresselly 2ndfs and once again he led by example with top score of 82 not out (13 boundaries) and found solid support from Rhydian Rees (42) and Scott Arthur (31) as home skipper Matthew Holder (4 for 68), Jamie Phelps (1 for 47) and Brennan Martin (1 for 45) were the successful bowlers.
Tom Blaxland led the Hook batting with 67 (seven boundaries) whilst Jake Wicks also batted well for his 36, but no-one else came to terms with the bowling of Tom Arthur (2 for 21), Nick Davies (2 for 41) and Cresselly skipper Matthew Lewis (3 for 34) as the game petered out into a draw.
Johnston’s winning streak halted by rain
Burton v Johnston (144 for 3) – match abandoned
Umpires: Tony Scourfield & Ian Williams
Scorers: Dennis Venables & Emma Summons
Johnston’s run of good results was finally halted by the weather at Oatfield park as the section leaders batted first and looked in a promising position at 144 for 3 in 30 overs – but then rain bright an early halt.
Dan Sutton looked in imperious form as he scored a boundary-laden 82 and John Summons gave good support with 26 against James Scale (1 for 50) and Steve Jones (1 for 13) but then there was to be no further play in the prevailing conditions.

Llangwm left to curse wet weather
Whitland 2nds (162 for 8) v Llangwm (224 for 8 Dec) – match abandoned
Les Hastings & Bob Elliott
Scorers: Ann-Marie Jenkins & Janice Brick
Llangwm’s hopes of making up ground on leaders Johnston were ruined by the weather after they scored 224 for 8 before declaring and then reducing Whitland 2nds to 162 for 8 in 30 overs – only for more rain to force a halt to proceedings.
Luke and Richard Brock were the main run-gatherers for Llangwm with respective scores of 52 and 50, assisted by captain Joe Kiff (45) and Chris Thomas (21) as David Dunfee (3 for 42), Matthew Webb (3 for 77) and Jack Bevan (2 for 25) were the home wicket-takers.
Dunfee then starred with the bat as he struck 64 in only 32 balls, striking five fours and six sixes before he departed. Matthew Webb also chipped in with 15 against Richard Brock (3 for 38), Ollie Davies (3 for 32) and Luke Brock (1 for30) – but then the rain intervened for the final time.
