Delaney drives the Town to win over old rivals

Haverfordwest (163 for 6) beat Carew (162 for 9) by four wickets

Umpires: Denis Chiffi & Ian Phillips
Scorers: Jayne Cole & Julie Davies

Matches between Haverfordwest and Carew are traditionally hard fought and this one was no exception as fortunes ebbed and flowed before Nigel Delaney made a match-winning contribution for The Town with 42 not out at a key time.

Carew’s innings owed much to the batting prowess of Tom Davies, their No 3 batsman rapping ten fours in his top score of 75 as Ian Sefton (14) and James Hinchliffe (12) were the only other Carew batsmen to manage double figures as Simon Holliday claimed 5 for 29 with his canny slow stuff.

The other successful Town bowlers were Josh Wilment (1 for 28), Avron Roulstone (1 for 26), Clive Tucker (1 for 39) and Ajay Revu (1 for 37) as Carew finished up on 162 for 9 from their allotted 45 overs.

Simon Holliday scored 20 for Haverfordwest but they lost wickets at key times against Simon Wood (3 for 20) and Sean Whitfield (2 for 28) to stand a little precariously at 80 for 5 before Jonathan Strawbridge (29) joined  Delaney in a partnership of 63.

Huw Scriven also rasped a quick-fire 21 and Delaney was still there at the finish as he helped The Town over the line after 41.5 overs.

Neyland gain sweet revenge

Neyland (138 for 2) beat Llanrhian (136 for 6) by eight wickets

Umpires: Steve Blowes & Richard Merriman

Neyland’s only league defeat of the season came at Llanrhian but the current leaders and reigning champs gained ample revenge at the Athletic Ground as they passed Llanrhian’s total with only two wickets down and having taken just 31 overs.

Llanrhian knew that they needed a large total to put pressure on Neyland’s powerful batting line up but they were unable to maintain a high run rate so they were on 96 for 4 with only 11 overs left, despite a typically forceful 53 (eight boundaries) from Gareth Davies. Ben Jones (16) and Luke Jones (12) also managed double figures but Andrew Miller exerted a major influence on their final score as he grabbed 5 for 39 in his 12 overs of slow stuff.

But Llanrhian were able to move to a reasonable final total as they scored 40 runs in the latter stages, thanks almost exclusively to 43 not out from Jack Jones (five fours).

Although Neyland lost Scott John (14) and Ashley Sutton relatively cheaply they then had a boundary-laden unbroken stand of over 100 between Nick Koomen and Paul Murray.

Koomen struck ten fours in his undefeated 57 whilst Murray marked his return from injury be hitting four big sixes in his 44 not out, with Matthew Bennett and Luke Jones the only Llanrhian bowlers to claim a wicket each.

Toms takes Narberth to victory with late six hit

Narberth (176 for 9) beat St Ishmaels (170 for 7) by one wicket

Umpires: Rob Bellerby & Rob Cousins
Scorers: Peter Hughes & Wendy Bradshaw
Division One Reports 19th July 2014
Brynley Toms was the toast of his Narberth team-mates after he came to the crease as their last man with Narberth needing just one run to win and after playing out three dot balls he lashed a big six that meant his side won by just one wicket in an absorbing tussle.

Peter Bradshaw again formed the backbone of the Tish innings as he top scored with 66 (seven fours and two sixes), sharing in a productive stand of 81 with Phil Cockburn (three fours and two sixes in his 46 not out) before
Tish finally settled on a respectable tally of 170 for 7 as Andrew Williams also chipped in with 19 against the bowling of Ian Hughes (1 for 37), Matthew Johns (2 for 17) and Kyle Quartermaine (1 for 37).

Marc Hughes (30) and Mike Scale (23) ensured Narberth had a decent start to their response before Kyle Quartermaine lashed an important 52 that included five fours and four big sixes.

But Matthew Phillips (3 for 45) and Andrew Pawlett (3 for 28) kept plugging away alongside Andrew Williams (1 for 46) and Robbie Thomas (2 for 21) to keep Tish in touch, despite 19 from Aaron Keane.

Narberth drew level from a no-ball before Toms sought out the winning run, which he did in style, to the evident delight of the Narberth players and supporters!

Peter Bradshaw was Tish’s top batsmen with 66 runs

Lawrenny delighted to defeat fellow basement battlers

Saundersfoot (163 for 5) lost to Lawrenny (166 for 4) by six wickets

Umpires: Arthur Brady & Mervyn John
Scorers: Adge John & Malcolm Thomas
Division One Reports 19th July 2014
Lawrenny maintained their recent improved form as they chased down Saundersfoot’s decent score with such conviction that they did it with six wickets and more than seven overs to spare.

Saundersfoot batted first and managed a respectable 163 for 5 as Rob Williams and Jamie Lewis claimed identical figures of 2 for 45 for Lawrenny, assisted by Alistair Edwards’ 1 for 15 analysis.

Seasiders’ skipper Paul Mansbridge survived a couple of chances to lead the batting with an innings of 70 (nine fours and a six), sharing a fourth-wicket partnership of 78 with Sam Franklyn (three fours and a six in his 43), plus little cameos from Paul Morris (15) and Steve Cook (13).

But an opening stand of 76 between Andrew Cole (49) and Hugh Griffiths (35), before the latter was run out, put Lawrenny on the right track and further good batting by Joe Kidney (34) and Steve Lewis (16 not out) was enough to take Lawrenny home, despite useful Saundersfoot bowling by Neil Powling (3 for 41) and Morgan Slate (1 for 29).

Paul Mansbridge struck an impressive 70 for Saundersfoot

Cresselly cruise to victory as Whitland wilt

Whitland (136 all out) lost to Cresselly (233 for 5) by 97 runs

Umpires: Les Hastings & Dai Morris
Scorers: Janice Webb & David Richards

Cresselly maintained their recent good form as they batted their way to a big score at Whitland and then shifted the opposition to such good effect that they won by almost 100 runs.

After 30 overs of the Cresselly innings their total of 118 for 5 must have given Whitland an air of satisfaction but then Simon Cole (45) and Brad McDermott-Jenkins (63) shared an unbroken stand of 121 where Cole struck four fours and two sixes and McDermott-Jenkins smashed nine fours and two sixes.

Scott Newton suffered most from their onslaught as he finished with 3 for 76 alongside Mark Lee (1 for 40) and Leighton O’Connor (1 for 48) as the only Whitland wicket-takers, whilst Phil Williams (11), Matthew Morgan (36) and Harry Thomas (35) were the other Cresselly scorers in double figures.

Paul Davies (45) top scored for Whitland and found some support from Leighton O’Connor (34) and Connor Bowen (16) but those knocks apart it was one-way traffic against Tom Murphy (3 for 13 in eight impressive overs), Stefan Jenkins (3 for 56), Brad McDermott-Jenkins (3 for 34) and Simon Cole (1 for 1).
