Classy Cresselly brush aside Carew

Cresselly (113 for 5) beat Carew (110-9) by 5 wickets

Umpires: Les Hastings & Allan Hansen
Scorers: David Richards & Julie Davies

A disciplined display with bat and ball saw Cresselly ease to a derby victory against old rivals Carew.
Home skipper Phil Williams won the toss and elected to field – and his bowlers did not let him down as they restricted the visitors to 23-5 early on.

Indeed, the fact that Carew were able to eventually sneak over the three figure mark was down to No 5 Brian Hall, who steadied the ship with a patient 43, a knock that included six fours.

Ian Forrester (18) also added late runs, but the home side were always on top as Tom Murphy (3-26), Harry Thomas (3-10), Mike Shaw (2-27) and Brad McDermott-Jenkins (1-16) ensured wickets fell at regular intervals.
And the Cresselly run chase got off to a solid start as Williams and Matthew Morgan put on 45 for the opening wicket – with Williams making 26 (three fours) and Morgan 24 (four fours) before both were dismissed by Rhys Davies.

Indeed, Davies did give Carew a glimmer of hope as he took three more wickets to finish with figures of 5-25, but Adam Chandler (18 not out) and McDermott-Jenkins (16 not out) steadied matters and the pair eased Cresselly home with five wickets in hand.

Division One Reports 2nd July 2014
Nigel Delaney was the Haverfordwest hero as he kept his nerve to lead The Town to a nail biting two wicket win at Narberth.

Having made 168-8 in their 45 overs, Ian Hughes’ men put themselves in pole position as they restricted The Town to 133-7, but Delaney (17 not out) held firm to help keep his side’s title hopes alive.

The home side had got off to a solid start as Marc Hughes and Richie Adams shared a stand of 76 for the opening wicket, before AJ Revu (1-20) removed Hughes for 40, an innings that included six fours and a six.

Adams went soon after for 36 (seven fours), and the dismissals disrupted Narberth’s momentum, with Ben Hughes (28) the only other batsman to offer any real resistance.

For The Town, spinner Clive Tucker starred with 4-42, while Simon Holliday took 2-22.

It was Holliday who then formed the backbone of the Haverfordwest reply, as the opener made 55, striking seven fours and a maximum in the process.

Dai Davies (32) and Adam James (21) provided support, but Narberth turned the screw as skipper Hughes (3-46), Ben Quartermaine (3-33) and brother Kyle (1-15) left The Town needing 36 to win with just three wickets left.

That equation became 11 runs to win with two wickets left when Ben Hughes (1-39) removed Revu, but Delaney was joined by Josh Wilment (0 not out), and the pair levelled the scores before Delaney sealed the win with a boundary.

League leaders leather Saundersfoot

Saundersfoot (101 all out) lost to Neyland (105 for 1) by 9 wickets

Umpires: Peter Perry & Tony Waldeis
Scorers: Adge John & John Laugharne

It was another heavy defeat for rock bottom Saundersfoot as Neyland showed no mercy in their quest to retain the Division One title.

The Seasiders were shot out for just 101, and then were only able to take one wicket as the league leaders cantered to their target inside 20 overs.

But the home side had threatened to post a competitive total as James Caine and Paul Mansbridge helped them recover from falling to 13-2 early on.

Caine his six fours and two sixes in his 44, while Mansbridge (24) offered support as the pair put on 62.
But both then fell within balls of each other, and The Seasiders duly collapsed from 75-4 to 101 all out.

For Neyland, Henry Durrant took 3-33, Gary Lloyd 3-11, Nick Koomen 2-37, and Scott Jones 1-2.

And they encountered few problems in their run chase, as openers Nick Koomen and Scott John put on 60 before Koomen went for 41 (five fours).

But John went onto it six boundaries to finish 40 not out, while No 3 Ashley Sutton made 21 not out as Neyland cruised home.

The defeat means Saundersfoot can now not finish outside of the bottom two this season.

Five star Williams leads Lawrenny to victory

St Ishmaels (144 all out) lost to Lawrenny (146 for 7) by 3 wickets

Umpires: Rob Bellerby & Arthur Brady
Scorers: Wendy Bradshaw & Malcolm Thomas

A five wicket haul from Rob Williams set Lawrenny up for a tense win at St Ishmaels.

Williams dismissed Peter Bradshaw and Andrew Williams in consecutive balls to leave the home side 6-2, and went onto take three more wickets to claim figures of 5-23 in an assured display of bowling.

Tish did recover from their early set-backs thanks to Phil Cockburn and Danny Howells – with Cockburn hitting four fours in his 35.

Howells went on to hit 52, striking four fours and a six in the process, but both batsmen fell to James Buckle (3-31).

Steve Lewis also took 1-24 as Tish fell to 144 all out in the final over of their innings.

Opener Andrew Cole (29) gave Lawrenny a steady start in their reply, but it was Joe Kidney who top scored as he hit three fours and a six in his knock of 53.

Jonathan Mathias added 23, while Andrew Pawlett (2-24) and Andrew Palmer (2-19) did their best to ensure a tense finish.

The visitors entered the final over needing just two win with four wickets in hand, and after Williams (2-17) took a wicket off the first ball, No 9 Jamie Lewis entered the fray and promptly stroked a boundary to seal a Lawrenny win.
