Hook openers so unlucky

Burton v Hook (167 for 0) – match abandoned

Umpires: Denis Chiffi & Mervyn John
Scorers: Dennis Venables & Chris Holder

Spare a thought for Hook’s opening batting pair of Brennan Lay and Tom Blaxland as they reached a smashing 167 for 0 at Oatfield Park in only 34 overs before play was abandoned because of persistent rain.

At that time Lay had struck 11 fours and two sixes in his 78 not out whilst Blaxland was just behind on 72 not out (12 boundaries). Both reached their half centuries in 76 deliveries and Hook will be disappointed to have the weather conspire against them when so well placed

Silverware hopefuls Llangwm slammed

Cresselly 2nds (274 for 9) beat Llangwm (73 all out) by 201 runs

Division Two Reports 9th August 2014Umpires: Allan Hansen & Ian Phillips

Llangwm’s hopes of winning the section silverware received a massive set-back as they were hammered by 201 runs against Cresselly 2nds – but there was minor consolation in the fact that rivals Johnston had their match abandoned when they were really well placed at Pembroke.

Scott Arthur led the Cresselly batting with a cracking 126-run tally that included 13 fours and five huge sixes, assisted by Rhydian Rees (30), Nick Jones (29) and Nick Davies (41), against bowling by Chris Inward (1 for 18), Ollie Davies (2 for 86), James Lewis (3 for 65), Richard Brock (2 for 52) and Huw Brock (1 for 13).

Richard Brock also batted well for his top score of 36 after tea but only Luke Brock managed double figures for Llangwm alongside him as Tom Arthur (3 for 26), Steve Thomas (3 for 18) and Cresselly Matthew Lewis (3 for 21) caused the damage with the ball to help inflict a huge defeat on Llangwm.

Llechryd hold on for the draw in run fest

Llechryd (214 for 8) drew with Haverfordwest 2nds (247 for 8)

Umpires: Les Hastings & Richard Merriman
Scorer: Natalie Thomas (Haverfordwest)

Haverfordwest Seconds managed to move out of the relegation zone with this high-scoring draw at Llechryd, who now have only a minor mathematical chance of avoiding the drop into division three.

Kashif Ijaz led The Town batting with an aggressive 74 that included ten fours and two sixes, supported by Sean Williams (28), Josh Hicks (48) and all-rounder Avron Roulstone (three sixes in his 38 not out) against Peter Betterley (2 for 43), John Curran (2 for 44) and Ajay (3 for 93).

Ajay also led the Llechryd batting with 64 not out alongside Mike Carter (33), John Curran (37) and James Heneker (27) but they were still 34 runs short of their target when stumps were drawn and are on their way back to division three as a result.

Borderers beat The Rooks in vital clash

Whitland 2nds (176 all out) beat Carew 2nds (132 all out) by 44 runs

Division Two Reports 9th August 2014Umpires: John Austin & Tony Waldeis

Scorer: Ann-Marie Jenkins

Whitland 2nds ensured survival for another year in Division Two with this hard-fought victory over their counterparts from Carew, who are still engaged in the battle to avoid the ‘dreaded drop’ as a result.

Nico Setaro led the Borderers’ batting with a hard-hitting 76 that included eight fours and three sixes, assisted by Matthew Webb (24), Rob Morgan (23) and double figures for Wayne Jones and James Thomas.

Neil Gregory (4 for 25), Luke Hicks (2 for 45) and Ceri Brace (3 for 38) were the pick of the Carew bowlers and Brace also topped the batting with 54 runs alongside Chris Cole (33), Scott Richards and Jacob Knox.

But The Rooks lost wickets regularly to David Dunfee (3 for 44), Paul Webb (4 for 28), Stuart Harries (2 for 18) and Matthew Webb (1 for 36) so that Whitland were worthy winners of an entertaining clash.

Johnston hopes ruined by rain at Treleet

Pembroke (215 for 4) v Johnston (117 for 1) – match abandoned

Umpires: Huw Davies & Glyn Pawlett
Scorer: Delyth Summons (Johnston)

Division Two Reports 9th August 2014Johnston missed out on the chance of extending their lead at the top of the table as rain caused the cessation of their match at Treleet when they stood nicely at 117 for 1 in pursuit of Pembroke’s 215 for 4.

With 25 overs left the section leaders were favourites for victory, especially with Dan Sutton (62 not out) again on form with five fours and a six which flew into the home changing room’s big window and smashed it to smithereens!

Jack Mills gave great support in an opening stand of 115 with his 47 including nine fours before he was removed by Andrew Hay, who had already chipped in with 28 not out alongside Jonathan Rogers (26 not out) which gave Pembroke the late runs that took them to an excellent total.

Rob Weston and Barry Evans shared an opening stand of 106 for 1 before Evans departed for 46 (seven fours), with Weston finally dismissed for 84 (nine boundaries) as Steve Mills (3 for 40) and Gary James (1 for 32) were the Johnston wicket-takers.

Dan Sutton - had a smashing time for Johnston at Pembroke!
