Indoor Cricket Week Eight:

TITCH HELPS WHITLAND WIN TWICE

Venue: The Meads Leisure Centre, Milford Haven
Umpires: Allan Hansen and Ray Kane
Participating teams – Whitland, St Ishmaels and Cresselly

Low scoring was very much the order of the day in the penultimate round of the 2015 indoor cricket league as Whitland beat Cresselly and St Ishmaels, who in turn smashed a Cresselly side who managed just one three, the main scoring method in the indoor version, from both of their matches!

Matthew ‘Titch’ Davies made a welcome return for Whitland after a long spell out injured and whilst he was pleased with his innings of 10 and 30 not out, plus a 2-13 bowling spell, he was disappointed that so few were there to see that he was back in action! Well done ‘Titch’!

Match One – Cresselly v St Ishmaels

Town take a step closer to the title!
Cresselly could muster only 57 runs in their allotted ten overs as skipper Tom Arthur contributed 29 not out and Harry Thomas managed an undefeated 15 as the rest of the team could muster only eight runs between them.

St Ishmaels made light of such a small tally to chase as Jonathan Pawlett showed how to bat indoors with a boundary-laden 29 before had to retire, with Kevin L Bowen (21) and Dan Howells (12) the not out batsmen as Tish strolled to victory.

Match Two – Whitland v Cresselly

Paul Davies (19) and Iestyn Scourfield (retired on 25) gave Whitland a solid start against Cresselly but then they lost their way and only Matthew Davies managed double figures as Scourfield returned to finish up with 36 not out in a Whitland total of 89 for 5 – not a big score by any means.

But it soon assumed gigantic proportions as there was a wicket apiece for Nico Setaro, Jack and Connor Bowen alongside a rare 3 for 6 haul from Paul Davies, who usually confines himself to batting outdoors.

One of his victims was top scorer Brad McDermott-Jenkins (20) and Cresselly’s final score of 54 all out was boosted by the fact that Whitland conceded 23 extras!

Match Three – Whitland v St Ishmaels

Town take a step closer to the title!
Whitland again batted first, this time against St Ishmaels, and there were useful runs from Nico Setaro (18) and Iestyn Scourfield, who had reached 20 when he fell to an excellent return catch by Dan Howells.

Matthew Davies top scored with an unbeaten 30 as James hall also showed his catching prowess from a really sharp gully chance to help dismiss Connor Bowen that he made look surprisingly easy.

Matthew Davies also shone with the ball as he grabbed 2 for 13 as only Dan Howells (19) and Andrew Pawlett (10) showed early form, with Paul Davies removing danger man Johnnie Pawlett as he dived forward to take a low return catch.

Jordan Milich showed what a good prospect he is with 27 not out but Tish were dismissed for 73 runs to complete a good day for the Borderers!
