Neyland bounce back to beat Borderers
Whitland (66 all out) lost to Neyland (67 for 3)
Umpires: Denis Chiffi & Rob Couzens
Scorers: Janice Webb & John Laugharne
Neyland bounced back from their disappointing defeat home to Johnston the previous weekend with this crushing win at Whitland, who were dismissed for a paltry 66 all out before Neyland eased home with plenty of overs and wickets to spare.
Only Paul Davies (16), Dai Lee (11) and Matthew Webb (11) managed double figures for the Borderers as Nathan Banner (4 for 20) and Henry Durrant (3 for 9) caused the problems with their accurate bowling – and slow bowler Andrew Phillips claimed 2-0 with two well-taken return catches.
Neyland lost skipper Gregg Miller in the first over bowled by Dan James and Wayne Howells bowled well for his figures of 2 for 18 – but Nick Koomen chipped in with 16 before Banner stroked 27 not out and Sean Hannon was undefeated on 17 as the champions won with ease before both teams went in for an early tea with the result settled!
Big win for Cresselly at Llandigige Fawr
Llanrhian (62 all out) lost to Cresselly (158 all out)
Umpires: Arthur Brady & Les HastingsCresselly enjoyed a big win at Llandigige Fawr as they had Matthew Morgan batting well to take them to a respectable score before shooting out Llanrhian thanks to attacking bowling by youngsters Harry Thomas and Tom Murphy alongside Brad McDermott-Jenkins.
Cresselly opener Morgan continued his excellent start to the new campaign with a solid 60 that contained three fours and two sixes, with supporting cameos from Simon ‘Snowy’ Cole (28), Adam Chandler (17) and Harry Thomas (19).
Luke Jones was the pick of the Llanrhian bowling attack with an excellent 5 for 22 haul in 9.3 overs, with off-spinner Gareth ‘Cadfael’ Davies picking up 2 for 48 in his 12 overs and Dom Wright claiming 1 for 27 as Cresselly ended on a respectable 158 all out.
But when Llanrhian went in to bat only Davies, Richard Reed and Iwan James managed double figures as Thomas (4 for 24), Murphy (2 for 12) and McDermott-Jenkins (3 for 19) tore them apart and they were dismissed for only 62 and left Cresselly victors by 96 runs.
Makeshift Llangwm pay the price
Haverfordwest (66 for 1) beat Llangwm (65 all out)
Umpires: Richard Merriman & Glyn Pawlett
Scorers: Jayne Cole & Janice Brick
Llangwm travelled the short distance to The Racecourse with a makeshift side and paid a heavy price as they were dismissed for only 65 runs and Haverfordwest strolled home in only 16-3 overs, losing just one wicket.
Visiting skipper Joseph Kiff elected to bat first in the hope of setting a decent score to try and put pressure on The Town but with so many players away on a ‘stag do’ only Chris Inward (27) got into any sort of rhythm, supported by Huw Brock (14) and James Venables (13).
But Llangwm found it hard going against Adam James (4 for 28), Avron Roulstone (3 for 16) and Simon Holliday (2 for 1) as they struggled against a balanced bowling attack.
Llangwm hopes were temporarily raised when Simon Holliday, the cornerstone of the home batting line-up, was caught by keeper Will Beresford off Inward’s bowling for a single but acting skipper Ben Field continued his good form with 27 not out and Dai Davies finished things off with a lively undefeated 37 to keep The Town at the head of the table.
Adam James took four wickets for the triumphant Town
Carew cruise to ten-wicket win
Lawrenny (97 all out) lost to Carew (101 for 0)
Umpires: Huw Davies & Dai Morris
Scorers: Malcolm Thomas & Julie Davies
Carew cruised to a ten-wicket win over near neighbours Lawrenny as they shifted the home side for only 97 runs and then openers Ian Sefton and Brian Hall reached three figures without a wicket going down, the target taking only 18 overs to reach.
Simon ‘Chief’ Cole returned with 21 for Lawrenny, assisted by Patrick Elliot (20) and James Buckle (16) but everyone else struggled against Neil Gregory (3 for 26), Ceri Brace (3 for 20) and Simon Wood (2 for 12) alongside 1 for 8 in eight overs from skipper Rhys Davies and 1 for 10 from Tom Davies in a similarly miserly spell.
Ian Sefton was soon on the attack for Carew and he finished up with 67 not out, including five fours and four sixes, whilst Brian Hall proved the ideal partner as he ended on 32 not out (four sixes).
Williams helps win it for Tish
Johnston (89 all out) lost to St Ishmaels (117 all out)
Umpires: Dave Brandon & John WilliamsScorers: Delyth Summons & Wendy Bradshaw
An excellent all-round performance by Andrew Williams proved the catalyst for St Ishmaels halting Johnston’s unbeaten start to the campaign as he scored 30 runs and then claimed 4 for 24 as the Glebelands Boys’ batting collapsed.
Experienced all-rounder Williams joined Peter Bradshaw after Steve Mills and Dan Sutton had Tish reeling at 7 for 3 but Bradshaw (45, including eight fours) and Williams (six fours in his 30) appeared to put the visitors on an even keel at 65 for 3.
But once they departed against Mills (5 for 27), Sutton (1 for 15), Lee Summons (3 for 27) and Kevin Roberts (1 for 27) the only other batsman to manage double figures was Andrew Pawlett (11).
Pawlett (4 for 14) then joined Williams in a spin/pace attack on the Johnston batting so that only Sutton (12) and Mills (11) managed double figures before some gritty lower-order stuff from Kevin Roberts, who reached 23 not out before Tish teenager Jordan Milich claimed the last wicket and helped earn a 28-run success for St Ishmaels.
