Jacob does just the job for Hook

Saundersfoot (185 for 6) lost to Hook (189 for 4)

Umpires: Steve Blowes and Tony Scourfield

Jacob Lay was the toast of his Hook team-mates as the talented teenage batsman led their chase of a sizeable total at Saundersfoot with an innings of 58 not out that was played out with great maturity for such a young player.

Paul Mansbridge (64), Sam Franklin (25) and James Caine (26) were the key run-gatherers in their 185 for 5 against the bowling of Tom Blaxland (3 for 22), Jake Wicks (1 for 22), Jamie Phelps (1 for 27) and Brennan Martin (1 for 36).

Franklin (2 for 54), Caine and Tom Morris claimed wickets for the Seasiders but Lay, supported by Wicks (42) and Harry Morris (40) scored the runs needed to see Hook home with eight overs still in hand as they inflicted a first defeat of the season on the home side.

Hughes and Adams set up Narberth win

Narberth (127 for 2) beat Haverfordwest 2nds (126 all out)

Umpires: Allan Hansen & John Austin
Scorers: Emma Richards & Ros Phillips

Narberth maintained their good early-season form, and a top of the table slot, with victory over Haverfordwest Seconds at the Lewis Lloyd Ground.

Put in to bat, Haverfordwest mustered a score of 126 all out thanks to a patient 48 not out from Jonathan Twigg alongside 19 apiece for Nitin Mathias and Nigel Morgan as Ben Hughes spear-headed the Narberth attack with an excellent 5 for 33 haul, assisted by Lewis Hough (2 for 23), Jordan Howell (1 for 30) and skipper Ben Quartermaine (2 for 15).

Then Ritchie Adams took control with the bat as he struck 11 boundaries in a fine 70 not out and Jordan Howell’s 39 runs (five fours) made sure that Narberth won with something to spare.

Division Two Match Reports 16th May 2015
There were plenty of runs at Oatfield Park before Burton reached their target of 178 runs for victory with four wickets and eight overs in hand, thanks in the main to a quality innings by Toby Hayman.

Still a teenager, Hayman plays with a maturity beyond his years and stroked eight fours and four sixes, supported by Phil Sutton (46 not out), Jack Davies (21) and new captain Morgan Scale (30) as they successfully chased down Whitland Seconds’ seemingly healthy total of 177 for 8.

Connor and Martin Bowen shared six wickets for Whitland and when they had batted earlier Connor Bowen had also top scored with 37, with Wayne Jones (36), Martin Thomas (30), Paul Webb (17) and Greg Sleep (16) also making contributions.

Jack Davies (3 for 19), George Williams (1 for 48), Steve Jones (1 for 35) and Hayman (1 for 11) were the Burton wicket takers as they finally got their season under way – whilst Whitland Seconds are yet to win a game in a slow start for them.

Paul Webb scored 17 runs for Whitland in their defeat at Burton

Kilgetty win a low-scoring thriller

Cresselly 2nds (92 all out) lost to Kilgetty (94 all out)

Umpires: Trefor Evans & Rob Elliott
Scorers: Des Brace & Hazel Poole

There was drama aplenty at Cresselly as the club’s second string seemed to have the game in their hands at tea after dismissing Kilgetty for 94, but the visitors fought back superbly to edge the verdict by two runs as Cresselly lost three wickets chasing the last five runs needed.

Sam Harts was the key Cresselly bowler with a 5 for 15 spell as Jamie Lewis (2 for 23) and Ollie Richards (2 for 7) also bowled well as only Jack Richardson (20), Grant Hardy (20) and Kurtis Marsh (15) ever looked comfortable for Kilgetty.

But it was a similar story after tea as only Cresselly skipper Richard Harris (35) and Rhydian Rees (10) managed double figures against Parkinson (5 for 14) and R Harding, but at 90 for 7 seemed set for a narrow win – only for the last three wickets to produce just two runs and allow Kilgetty to celebrate what at one stage seemed an unlikely first win!

Canny ‘Evs’ steers Pembroke home

Camrose (158 all out) lost to Pembroke (160 for 3)

Umpires: Tony Waldeis & Robert Ridge
Scorer: Matthew Davies (Camrose)

Division Two Match Reports 16th May 2015Veteran opening bat Barry Evans has made an excellent start to the season for Pembroke and the canny left-hander once again anchored their innings and helped them to victory at Camrose.

Camrose’s tally of 158 all out owed much to Jonathan Venables (45) and new skipper Dan Wilks (58) alongside double figures for Martin Tweedie and Aled Thomas against the Pembroke bowling of Jonathan Rogers (2 for 46), James Skeels (1 for 21), George MacBeth (1 for 45) and new captain Paul White (4 for 22).

‘Evs’ then played every ball on merit as he batted throughout Pembroke’s reply, ending up with 52 not out as Phil hay rapped 46 before Jack Harries joined Evans at the crease with 13 not out that saw their side home by seven wickets, and still with plenty of overs in hand.
