Game abandoned at Neyland as the covers and scoreboard tell the story
Early shocks for Neyland
Neyland (91 for 3) v Llanrhian – Abandoned after 18 overs
Umpires: Arthur Brady & Tony Scourfield
Scorer: John Laugharne
Neyland had superbly covered their square and a large portion of their outfield for their match against basement battlers Llanrhian but then must have wished they hadn’t bothered because after one over from Dominic Wright they had lost two wickets without scoring a run!
Skipper Gregg Miller slapped the first ball of the match into the safe clutch of Robbie Jenkins at point and then four balls later Ashley Sutton did the same thing to Gareth ‘Cadfael’ Davies in the gully!
But Neyland have a powerful batting line-up and Nick Koomen and Nathan Banner settled things down in a stand of 83 before Koomen was caught by Paul Lewis off the bowling of Jack Jones for 38 (six fours).
Banner had scored 43 not out (five fours and two sixes) and Andrew Miller contributed 4 not out before the weather intervened and the game was eventually abandoned, despite the common sense approach adopted by umpires Tony Scourfield and Arthur Brady in trying to get as much cricket in as possible.
Rain ruins top of table clash
Carew v Haverfordwest (15-0) – abandoned after three overs
Umpires: Denis Chiffi & Huw Davies
Scorers: Julie Davies & Jayne Cole
The eagerly-awaited top of the table clash between Carew and Haverfordwest fell victim to the foul weather, despite the valiant efforts of both teams and umpires to get the game started.
After a late start The Town were asked to bat first and had reached 15 for 0 as Ben Field and Simon Holliday successfully negotiated the three overs bowled by skipper Rhys Davies and his cousin Tom.
But then the rain came back and left both teams frustrated by the elements.
