DR Morris Cup Semi-Finals:
Gregg guides holders to easy win
Neyland (195 for 4) beat St Ishmaels (116 all out) by 79 runs
Umpires: Steve Blowes & Richard MerrimanScorers: John Laugharne & Wendy Bradshaw
Neyland skipper Gregg Morris played a key role in the cup-holders’ comfortable win over St Ishmaels as he won the toss and elected to bat first on a cracking wicket at Imble Lane and helped his side establish a big score before bowling the opposition out cheaply.
Miller raced to his half century in only seven overs out of 62 runs scored, and reached 83, including 11 fours and two sixes, before he was caught attempting another big hit.
He had solid support from Nathan Banner (17), Ashley Sutton (17) and Nick Koomen (a speedy 32) before Patrick Bellerby (14) and Henry Durrant (18) were the not out batsmen as Neyland reached a huge 195 for 4.
Tish’s response never really got off the ground as Banner (3 for 18) and Gary Lloyd (2 for 27) made early inroads so that only Jonathan Pawlett (19), Andrew Williams (17) and Archie Smithies (17) ever stayed long until Dan Richards hit an excellent late 42 not out. Nick Koomen also claimed 2 for 7 and there was a wicket each for Scott Jones, Patrick Hannon and Durrant as Tish struggled in vain.
Cresselly batting power pays off
Carew (131 for 7) lost to Cresselly (133 for 2) by eight wickets
Umpires: Dave Brandon & Trefor EvansScorers: Julie Davies & Tegan Cartwright
Cresselly produced a powerful team performance as they bowled and fielded well against Carew before excellent batting by Adam Chandler and Matthew Morgan saw them home with overs and wickets to spare.
Ian Sefton (35) and Rhys Davies (24) gave Carew a solid start after they elected to bat first but only Lewis Hicks (17) and Nick Scourfield (21) ever stayed long thereafter against Sam Harts (1 for 21), Ryan Lewis (1 for 22), Brad McDermott-Jenkins (2 for 37) and Simon Cole (2 for 29).
McDermott-Jenkins then smashed a huge six which caused damage to the Kilgetty clubhouse roof but then departed – with Adam Chandler (six fours in his 55 not out) and Matthew Morgan (stumped by Tom Scourfield for 59, including five fours and three big sixes) making sure that Cresselly eased into a final with Neyland at the expense of their near neighbours.
