Ashley Sutton - cracked 87 runs for Neyland

Neyland win with ease

Neyland (252 for 9) beat Whitland (125 all out) by 127 runs

Umpires: Dave Brandon & Rob Cousins
Scorers: John Laugharne & Janice Webb

Neyland and Whitland meet in the Harrison-Allen Bowl Final in 14 days and although it is an entirely different format Gregg Miller’s men gained a morale-boosting league win by a massive 127-run margin against opposition which made a promising start in the field but were outplayed thereafter.

Neyland lost a couple of early wickets but a stand of 99 between Nick Koomen (49, including seven boundaries) and Ashley Sutton (another fine innings of 87 which contained ten fours and two sixes) put them on the way to a big score.

Cameos from Nathan Banner (29), Patrick Bellerby (20) and Scott Jones (31 at a key time) took the home side to a huge 252 for 9 against Mark Lee (3 for 50), Wayne Howells (1 for 44), Johnny Thomas (1 for 58), Leighton O’Connor (1 for 53) and skipper Matthew Davies (2 for 37).

Wayne Howells (31) and Kevin Pearce (14) were the only Whitland batsmen to manage double figures alongside Iestyn Scourfield’s gritty 42 not out as Nathan Banner (4 for 20) and Patrick Hannon (4 for 31) each completed their12-over spells before Nick Koomen wrapped things up with a late 2 for 5 cameo.

Steve steers Lawrenny to draw safety

Carew (221 all out) drew with Lawrenny (164 for 8)

Umpires: Trefor Evans & Tony Waldeis
Scorers: Julie Davies & Malcolm Thomas

Lawrenny made the short journey to Carew and returned home with a hard-fought draw thanks to Steve Lewis’s late contribution – but the home side gained the bulk of the draw points as reward for their efforts.

Carew welcomed back Tim Hicks after a spell out of the game and he showed his worth as he led their batting to a good score, belting nine boundaries and a six before he was caught off a skier by Jamie Lewis as part of spin bowler Phil Cole’s 4 for 46 haul in 6.4 overs.

Nick Scourfield contributed 42 and Tom Davies had 24 as Rob Williams (2 for 32), Jamie Lewis (1 for 57), Alistair Edwards (1 for 52) and Simon Cole (1 for 12) joined Phil Cole as the Lawrenny wicket-takers before Carew were all out in the last of their 45 overs.

Patrick Elliott (seven boundaries in his 53), James Buckle (22) and Rob Williams (23) batted well for Lawrenny against Neil Gregory (2 for 25), Rhys Davies (1 for 40), Tom Davies (3 for 15), Shaun Whitfield (1 for 32) and James Hinchliffe (1 for 17).

At one stage it looked as if Carew might win but Steve Lewis used his vast experience to good effect as he stroked an unbeaten 53 that included eight fours as the game petered into a draw.

Big-hitting Brad bashes Llanrhian

Cresselly (165 for 2) beat Llanrhian (162 all out) by eight wickets

Umpires: Richard Merriman & Dai Morris

Cresselly’s big hitter Brad McDermott-Jenkins was clearly in a hurry against Llanrhian because after the visitors amassed 162 all out he lead his side to an eight-wicket win from only 14.5 overs at a rate of over 11 runs per over.
Shell-shocked fielders chased in vain as McDermott-Jenkins smashed 110 of his 116 runs from boundaries, with nine sixes in the 40 deliveries he faced and from only 25 scoring shots.

Llanrhian spinner Gareth Davies claimed 2 for 74 but Adam Chandler supported with 30 runs.

Llanrhian’s final tally owed much to Paul Lewis (49), Luke Jones (40) and skipper Richard Read (11) against Sam Harts (2 for 16), Mike Shaw (4 for 29) and Ryan Lewis (3 for 22) and it tea it seemed a reasonable, if not huge score – until McDermott-Jenkins smashed his magnificent three-figure score!

Llangwm push league leaders all the way

Llangwm (214 for 8) lost to Haverfordwest (215 for 6) by 4 wickets

Umpires: John Williams & Glyn Pawlett
Scorers: Janice Brick & Jayne Cole

Few would have given basement boys Llangwm a chance against table-topping Haverfordwest but the Town were pushed all the way until a Dai Davies’ six from the second ball of the final over maintained their run of successes.

Phil Llewellyn anchored the early Llangwm innings with a stylish 37 and there was 19 apiece for Will Beresford and Huw Brock at the other end before Joseph Kiff and Chris Inward launched a determined counter-attack, with skipper Kiff smashing seven sixes and two fours as he sped to 61 from only 28 deliveries before he was caught on the fence by Adam James off Dai Davies’ bowling.

Inward had three fours and another three big sixes in his 43 not out against James (2 for 40), Simon Holliday (2 for 18), Clive Tucker (3 for 63) and Davies (1 for 22).

Ben Field (34) and Simon Holliday put on 53 before Field departed, but Holliday batted well until he was finally out for 84, with 12 fours and four sixes before he was bowled by Chris Inward, who claimed 2 for 43 alongside Phil Llewellyn’s 2 for 42.

Haverfordwest skipper Dan Potter contributed 31 and Huw Scriven was there with Davies at the finish as he snatched a single before Davies sent the ball sailing over the boundary rope to give the visitors to Pill Parks a harder-fought victory than they might have expected.

Tish tame the Glebelands Gang

St Ishmaels (133 for 6) beat Johnston (129 all out) by 4 wickets

Umpires: Steve Blowes & Arthur Brady

Division One Match Reports 18th July 2015 - sponsored by Nicholas InsuranceScorers: Wendy Bradshaw

St Ishmaels produced an excellent all-round team display to gain victory over a Johnston side which has gone off the boil of late and perhaps was suffering the hangover of Harrison-Allen Bowl defeat in midweek.

Asked to bat first, the ‘Glebelands Gang’ were unable to find big individual scores or partnerships from their powerful batting line up in which Dan Sutton (27), Steve Mills (23), Chris Fitzpatrick (25) and Lee Summons (22) made solid starts but then got out to Dean John (2 for 22), Andrew Williams (4 for 33), Andrew Pawlett (2 for 35) and Peter Bradshaw (1 for 7).

Bradshaw then led the Tish counter-offensive with 49 (seven fours) before he was caught by Liam Boswell off the bowling of Jason Davies (1 for 9). Phil Cockburn chipped in with 17 as Dan Sutton (1 for 9), Chris Fitzpatrick (1 for 44), Gary James (2 for 24) and Kevin Roberts (1 for 17) were the other successful Johnston bowlers – but Andrew Williams (20 not out) and Archie Smithies (12 not out) batted sensibly in taking Tish to a comfortable win in only 33.2 overs.
