Matthew Lewis Tom Blaxland Paul and Janice Webb
Cricket - Second Division Statistics 2015:
It might seem a strange time to produce statistics for the 2015 cricket season, especially since the first division top 20s with both bat and ball were printed here in late September - but cricket anoraks Paul and Janice Webb, from Tavernspite Nurseries, have been like Rottweilers in chasing up the last few scoresheets needed to produce the stats for the second division.
Both batting and bowling figures make interesting reading and promoted side Narberth had three of the top six bowlers and four batsmen in the top 20, including two in the first three run gatherers!
Well done Tom!
Congratulations to talented young Hook batsman Tom Blaxland on scoring the most runs, with 747 at an average of 83 in his 13 innings - whilst behind him were Kyle Quartermaine (671) and Ritchie Adams (588) both of Narberth and with Quartermaine topping the runs per game average by dint of the fact that he only had ten innings!
Blaxland had three centuries out of the ten scored in the division and whilst veteran Barry Evans (Pembroke) finished a creditable fifth place with 437 runs (top score 117no) his team mates tell us that he undoubtedly faced the most balls!
Matthew’s top bowler with his canny slow stuff!
Unusually in the bowling stakes, the top three have the same positions looking at most wickets or runs conceded per wicket, with Matthew Lewis (Cresselly) trundling his slow stuff to such good effect that his 40 wickets put him four ahead of Jordan Howell and eight in front of Ben Quartermaine, both from Narberth. Lewis also claimed the most wickets in a match with a 9 for 30 haul - so well done Matthew!
All-rounders galore
There were also six players who could lay claim to being considered as all-rounders, including Paul Webb himself, who finished a long and distinguished career at Whitland by being 11th in the bowling and 13th in batting. 'Webbie' could be starting an interesting new phase as an umpire and can look forward to being County Club chairman in a year - as well as being a regular in the Welsh Veterans;' squad!
Tom Blaxland followed his top spot in the batting with 18th in the bowling, Sam Franklyn (Saundersfoot) featured in both alongside Ross Hardy (Kilgetty), Jordan Howell (Narberth) and Ben Quartermaine.
It all adds up to another interesting set of figures from Mr and Mrs Webb and we are already looking forward to their stats for the 2016 campaign!
