Sutton steers Neyland home against Narberth

Neyland (170 for 5) beat Narberth (168 for 6) by 5 wickets

Umpires: Robert Ridge & Dai Morris
Scorers: John Laugharne & Emma Richards

An excellent innings of 62 by Ashley Sutton helped Neyland remain firmly in contention at the top of the table as they played against a gritty Narberth outfit where both teams were minus key players.

Narberth batted first and found it hard going against the pace/spin combination of Nathan Banner and Andrew Miller but opener Ritchie Adams showed why he has been their top batsman over the years with a classy undefeated century, assisted by Ben Hughes and skipper Ben Quartermaine, who both scored 22 runs.

Adams had 12 fours and a six, included some superb off-drives that raced along the ground to the Athletic Ground boundary, as Banner returned figures of 3 for 51 alongside Miller’s 2 for 33, which included a good catch by brother Gregg at mid-off to get rid of the in-form Jordan Howell.

Sutton then led the Neyland batting with 12 boundaries in his innings before he gave a return catch as part of Ben Hughes’ 3 for 53 haul. Ben Quartermaine (1 for 34) and Lewis Hough (1 for 46) were the other Narberth wicket-takers as Nathan Banner (26), Geraint Rees (13), Nick Koomen (15) and Gregg Miller (12 not out) helped Neyland home.

Lewis leads Lawrenny to come-back victory

Lawrenny (201 for 4) beat St Ishmaels (200 for 8)

Umpires: Neil Croucher & Richard Merriman
Scorers: Malcolm Thomas & Wendy Bradshaw

Steve Lewis - brilliant batting by Lawrennys power hitter Steve Lewis was the toast of his Lawrenny colleagues as he scored a sparkling 93 not out after his side had been reduced to just 15 for 3 in pursuit of St Ishmaels’ challenging 200 for 8.

He shared in a stand of 93 with Brad McDermott-Jenkins (six fours in his 41) and then an unbroken partnership of 93 with another experienced campaigner in James Buckle (five boundaries in his 41 not out.
Dan Howells maintained his good run of scores for Tish with 47 (three fours and a six), whilst Phil Cockburn (39), Andrew Williams (44), Andrew Palmer (20) and Mark Mathias (21) also contributed as they reached 200 for 8 wickets.

For Lawrenny, the wickets were taken by Simon ‘Chief’ Cole (3 for 44), Steve Lewis (2 for 45), Brad McDermott-Jenkins (1 for 35) and Jamie Lewis (1 for 31).

Dean John (2 for 46), Andrew Palmer (1 for 55) and Andrew Pawlett (1 for 37) took the wickets for Tish but Steve Lewis struck 11 fours and a six in his match-winning innings which allowed Lawrenny to leap-frog their opponents in the section table.

Holliday helps Town to easy win

Haverfordwest (66 not out) beat Whitland (65 all out) by 10 wickets

Umpires: Arthur Brady & Glyn Pawlett
Scorers: Jayne Cole & Ann-Marie Jenkins

An excellent all-round performance from Simon Holliday helped Haverfordwest to an easy win over a Whitland side that looked a shadow of its former self as only Paul Davies (20) and skipper Iestyn Scourfield (17 not out) ever looked settled.

Josh Wilment (2 for 30) and Adam James (1 for 12) reduced Whitland to 20 for 3, the latter taking the best catch seen at The Racecourse for a long time to get rid of Gregg Sleep, before ‘spin twins’ Clive Tucker and Holliday brought about the demise of the other Whitland batsmen.

Tucker picked up 1 for 13 but Holliday bamboozled the opposition to such a degree that he returned figures of 5 for 8 before joining Ben Field to see Haverfordwest home by ten wickets as ‘The Doc’ scored 31 not out and Field remained unbeaten on 30 to see the game finish just after 4.30pm!

Cresselly’s power batting pays off

Cresselly (263 for 3 Declared after 41 overs) beat Llanrhian (168 all out) by 95 runs

Umpires: Dave Brandon & Allan Hansen

There were runs galore at Cresselly as they amassed a huge 263 for 3 declared in 40 overs to give them 50 overs to bowl Llanrhian out and the visitors eventually finished 96 runs short of victory with overs aplenty still to spare for Cresselly, who move into sole top spot as a result.

The home side began with a century partnership between Phil Williams (10 fours in his classy 61) and ‘Mr Reliable’ Adam Chandler, who survived a chance when he was dropped third ball, but went on to contribute 57 (eight boundaries).

That nicely set the stage for Iwan Izzard, another batsman in a rich vein of form, to launch four fours and four huge sixes en route to an undefeated 70, assisted by Simon Cole (19) and then Alex Bailey, who had five fours and a six in his 40 not out.

Llanrhian toiled hard in the field but only Robbie Jenkins (3 for 84 in eight overs) managed any wickets against such a powerful batting line-up.

Geraint Morris, back from one of his many treks abroad, led the Llanrhian batting with a boundary-laden 59, ably assisted by Jack Jones (47) and Luke Jones (20) but they lost wickets at key times against the indefatiguable Sam Harts (3-31), Tom Arthur (2 for 46), Mike Shaw (3 for 47) and Ryan Lewis (2 for 44) and suffered their sixth defeat in a row as they remain rooted at the foot of the table.

‘Seffie’ steers Carew to easy home win

Carew (118 for 1) beat Johnston (114 all out) by 9 wickets

Umpires: Les Hastings & Huw Davies
Scorers: Julie Davies & Natalie Thomas

Ian Sefton - led Carew to an esay win with some powerful stroke play An undefeated 60 by Ian Sefton helped Carew to an easy home win over a Johnston side which was never in with a chance as they lost wickets at regular intervals and encountered ‘Seffie’ and Brian Hall in fine fettle.

Johnston won the toss and elected to bat first – and were soon in trouble against the varied Carew bowling attack which quickly reduced them to 114 all out in the 39th over as only the father and son duo of John (23) and Lee Summons (38) were joined by Jason Davies (16) as the only batsmen in double figures.

Tom Davies grabbed 3 for 8 in 8.5 overs alongside Neil Gregory (2 for 19), Ceri Brace (2 for 36), Sean Whitfield (1 for 31) and Rhys Davies (1 for 17) as Carew went in to tea having done well against such a potentially big-hitting outfit.

Johnston hopes were raised early on when Dan Sutton shifted Ceri Brace for only five runs but then Sefton blasted 11 fours and a six in an undefeated 60 made from only 72 balls – and Hall rasped seven boundaries in his 40 not out as Carew eased home in only 26.5 overs.
