Neyland move to the top of the table

Neyland (149 for 4) beat Cresselly (147 for 9) by 6 wickets

Umpires: Huw Davies & Dave Brandon

Neyland produced an excellent all-round performance to deservedly move to the top of the table as they pushed Cresselly off their lofty perch with a six-wicket success at the Athletic Ground.

Home skipper Sean Hannon won the vital toss and asked Cresselly to bat first – and the visitors lost ace-run gatherer Adam Chandler early on to a run out which reduced his amazing league batting average of 108 and Phil Williams also departed before Iwan Izzard maintained his run of big scores with 56 (six fours and a six). Neal Williams (22), Alex Bailey (10) and Tom Arthur (18 not out) were the other batsmen in double figures against Nathan Banner (2 for 24) and ‘spin twins’ Andrew Miller (3 for 32) and Gary Lloyd (2 for 38) as the table-toppers struggled to 147 for 9 in their allotted overs, a score that will have disappointed acting skipper Mike Shaw.

Neyland had steady batting by Nick Koomen (31), Patrick Bellerby (22), Ashley Sutton (26) and Nathan Banner (37) before Andrew Miller (13 not out) was joined by brother Gregg in seeing Neyland home with wickets and overs in hand, despite the bowling of Shaw (1 for 27), Ryan Lewis (1 for 19) and Sion Jenkins (1 for 22).

Town take over second spot

Haverfordwest (169 for 6) beat Lawrenny (168 all out) by 4 wickets

Umpires: Arthur Brady & Denis Chiffi
Scorers: Jayne Cole & Malcolm Thomas

Haverfordwest moved into second place in the top echelon as they restricted Lawrenny to 168 all out when a score of 200-plus seemed on the cards at one time – and then survived a few tense moments before easing home thanks to an excellent innings by skipper Danny Potter.

Harry Thomas looked in fine fettle with some superb boundary shots for Lawrenny as the left-hander opened the innings with ten fours in his 51alongside Simon ‘Chief’ Cole (16) before Brad McDermott-Jenkins (37) and Rob Williams (16) also batted well against Haverfordwest’s four spin bowlers, in the absence of pace men Adam James and Josh Wilment.

New recruit Adil Khan marked his first-team debut by showing he can steam into the wicket and bowled better than his 0 for 27 might suggest before Kieran O’Connor (1 for 14) and Clive Tucker (1 for 32) were joined by Simon Holliday and Gareth Davies with identical figures of 4 for 35, whilst one of the features of The Town’s fielding was a splendid boundary catch late in the Lawrenny innings.

Potter had nine fours and a six in his 65, with support from Holliday (38) and Dai Davies (17) before Gareth Davies (18 not out) and Khan (11 not out) eased The Town home in 43 overs.

Skipper Ben stars for Narberth

Johnston (119 all out) lost to Narberth (196 all out) by 77 runs

Umpires: Tony Scourfield & Steve Blowes
Scorers: Natalie Thomas & Emma Richards

Narberth skipper Ben Quartermaine was the undoubted star of his team’s big win at Glebelands as he top scored when they was asked to bat first – and then claimed four wickets for peanuts to help beat Johnston by 77 runs.

Richard Adams and skipper Quartermaine were the key batsmen after Narberth had been asked to bat first, with Adams looking to continue his excellent form with 59 (seven fours and a six) before he was adjudged lbw to ‘old war horse’ Richard James, who finished with 2 for 41 alongside Steve Mills (1 for 34), Dan Sutton (2 for 36), Chris Phillips (1 for 28) and Lee Summons (4 for 47).

Ben Quartermaine hit a terrific straight six and nine fours in his 63 and with other support from brother Kyle (16) and Ben Hughes (23) Narberth settled for 196 all out in their final over.

Dan Sutton (45), Steve Mills (16) and John Summons (26) top scored for Johnston but Ben Quartermaine (4 for 15) and Ben Hughes (4 for 27) kept the home side on the back foot after Richard Howell (1 for 33) had also bowled well early on.

Tom takes Carew to easy win

Carew (190 for 2) beat Llanrhian (187 for 5) by 8 wickets

Umpires: Allan Hansen & Dai Morris
Scorer: Julie Davies (Carew)

A smashing century by wicket-keeper turned opening bat Tom Scourfield helped Carew to an easy eight-wicket win over basement side Llanrhian with more than seven overs in hand.

He shared in an opening stand of 163 with namesake Nick, including 11 fours and four sixes, facing just 111 deliveries before he was out to Jerome Flynn, who finished with 2 for 41 as he also shifted Nick Scourfield for 55 (nine boundaries).

Earlier, Llanrhian elected to bat first and their main contributor to a decent final tally of 187 for 5 was Ben Jones, whose solid 68 included seven fours and three sixes, with lesser support from Geraint Morris (19), Jack Jones (13), and Matthew Bennett (10). Then Sam Kurtz (32 not out) and Richard Read (27 not out) shared a late unbeaten half century stand as Neil Gregory (1 for 18), Ceri Brace (2 for 49) and James Hinchliffe (1 for 27) were the Carew wicket takers.

It was left to Daf Bevan and Tom Davies to score the few runs needed for victory as Carew were good value for an excellent performance despite the absence of skipper Rhys Davies and some other key players.

Tish tail-enders hold on for draw in tense finale

St Ishmaels (198 for 9) drew with Whitland (220 for 7)

Umpires: Rob Bellerby & Neil Croucher
Scorers: Wendy Bradshaw & Ann-Marie Jenkins

Paul Davies stylish 53 for Whitland St Ishmaels last pair of Dean John and Mark Mathias survived a tense final over against Whitland which earned them a draw in a high-scoring clash but which allowed the visitors to leap-frog over Tish and out of the bottom two in the table.

Whitland’s big score of 220 for 7 owed much to a series of solid batting performances   centred on Paul Davies’ stylish 53 (eight fours), with Will Spreadbury (36), Matthew Davies (27), Iestyn Scourfield (26) and Scott Newton (36 not out) all contributing against Dean John (1 for 51), Andrew Palmer (1 for 52), Brennan Devonald 2 for 26 and Andrew Williams (2 for 35).

Tish’s response was built around a sixth-wicket partnership of 91 between Phil Cockburn (54) and Peter Bradshaw (52), assisted by Dan Richards (20) and Andrew Williams (29) against Iestyn Scourfield (2 for 26), Wayne Howells (2 for 37), Scott Newton (3 for 35) and Matthew Davies (1 for 67) but Dean John used his experience to good effect as he ended on 21 not out and Whitland weren’t quite able to complete the coup de grace!
