Harrison-Allen Bowl – Quarter-final round-up
Llangwm beat Carew – by just one run!
Llangwm (131 all out) beat Carew (130 for 8) by 1 run
Umpires: Richard Merriman & Dai Morris
Scorers: Stuart Beresford/Joe Phillips & Julie Davies
There was high drama at Pill Parks as Carew’s Tom Davies faced the final ball of the match from Llangwm pace bowler Chris Inward needing one run to tie an eventful tussle but it was Inward who became the Llangwm hero as he sent the bails flying and the second-division side claimed a surprise win.
Will Beresford (44) was again the main contributor for Llangwm alongside Andrew Harries (10), Luke Brock (11), James Venables (19) and Matthew Kiff (17) against useful Carew bowling from Rhys Davies (1 for 15), Tom Davies (3 for 26), Rob Scourfield (1 for 18) and especially Sean Whitfield (4 for 17).
Tom Scourfield (20) opened quite well for Carew and there were other cameos from Whitfield (two big sixes in his 21) and Tom Davies (17) but it was Nick Scourfield (four fours and two sixes) in an excellent 44 who kept his side in touch as Matthew Kiff (2 for 24), Ollie Davies (2 for 36) and Phil Llewellyn (2 for 25) kept Llangwm in contention.
Carew needed three runs off the final two deliveries from Inward (2 for 29) and James Hinchliffe managed a single before that final fatal delivery saw Llangwm go through at Carew’s expense.
Tish too experienced for Kilgetty
St Ishmaels (139 for 4) beat Kilgetty (138 for 8) by 4 wickets
Umpires: Allan Hansen & Les Hastings
Scorers: Wendy Bradshaw & Hazel Poole
St Ishmaels’ greater Bowl experience finally told at home against Kilgetty but not before they were put through the sternest of tests from the second division club.
Indeed, after Kilgetty had battled their way back from losing two wickets in their first over to score 138 for 8 they had Tish in a little trouble as the homesters needed 85 from their last 11 overs having lost three wickets.
But Peter Bradshaw (58 not out) and Andrew Palmer (36) put in some telling blows and they eventually reached their target with 2.2 overs in hand.
Ross Hardy was again the top Kilgetty scorer with an excellent 52 not out (3 fours and 5 big sixes) alongside Toby Poole (35 not out) as Tish bowlers Dean John (3 for 36), Andrew Pawlett (2 for 34), and Danny Flynn (2 for 43) got amongst the wickets.
Phil Cockburn (14) and Dan Howells (12) scored a few runs early on for Tish but hardy (3 for 29) and Johnny Harries (1 for 23) pegged them back for a while but then Bradshaw and Palmer, who both have Bowl winners’ medals already, took Tish through to play Haverfordwest in the semi-final.
Town take victory at a canter
Pembroke Dock (36 all out) lost to Haverfordwest (39 for 1) by 9 wickets
The quarter-final between Pembroke Dock and Haverfordwest at Imble lane only lasted 18 overs in total as the Dock were bundled out for 36 in 13 overs and The Town took just five ove3rs to coast into the final four.
Only Luke Murray managed double figures for the home side and there were 14 extras, nine of them wides, whilst Adam James grabbed 5 for 2 as the home batsmen were unable to cope with his pace.
At the other end, Adil Khan failed to take a wicket with his fast stuff but the canny slow bowling of Clive Tucker (2 for 9), Kieran O’Connor (1 for 2) and Simon Holliday (1 for 0) saw The Dock struggle.
Huw Scriven gave Haverfordwest a flying start with four boundaries in his 20 before he was shifted by Phil Scott (1 for 2) but Nigel Delaney (9 not out) and James (8 not out) saw the game end in double-quick time.
Cresselly battle into the last four
Neyland (120 all out) lost to Cresselly (149 for 5) by 29 runs
Umpires: Dave Brandon & Trefor Evans
Scorers: John Laugharne & Teagan Cartwright
Cresselly were asked to bat first at Neyland and after struggling mid-innings a late surge by spin bowlers Ryan Lewis and Mike Shaw with the bat saw them build a score that seemed about average but eventually proved too big for the home side to pass.
Adam Chandler (27) and Alex Bailey (44) took Cresselly to 72 for 0 but they struggled to 88 for 4 as Andrew Miller claimed 3 for 36 from wily leg-spinners and was instrumental in running out Simon Cole.
Then Ryan Lewis belted 41 not out (four fours and a six) in imitable style, supported by Mike Shaw (two sixes in his unbeaten 22) and Neyland needed 150 for victory.
Nick Koomen got Neyland off to a good start with 32 of the first 39 runs but then pace man Tom Arthur (3 for 27) and off-spinner Shaw (4 for 22) applied pressure, assisted by a few good catches like the one that Simon Cole took on the boundary to get rid of danger man Nathan Banner (18).
Patrick Hannon also contributed 17 but no-one in the strong home batting line-up and two late wickets for Ryan Lewis’s slow stuff saw Cresselly into a semi-final tussle with Llangwm.
Revised Draw:
Haverfordwest v St Ishmaels (at Carew) – 12th July
Cresselly v Llangwm (at Whitland) - 14th July
