Kilgetty take title in a hurry!

Carew 2nds (47 all out) lost to Kilgetty (48 for 0) by 10 wickets

Umpires: Huw Davies & Neil Croucher
Scorers: Scott Richards & Hazel Poole

Kilgetty are deservedly division two champions after a comprehensive victory over a young and inexperienced Carew Seconds where they shot out the opposition for only 47 in 18 overs and then took only 8.1 overs to win without losing a single wicket.

Only Jacob Knox (12) managed double figures for the homesters against the bowling of Kilgetty skipper Ross Hardy (4 for 27), Jack Parkinson (2 for 8) and Kurtis Marsh (3 for 10).

Then Kurtis Marsh scored 18 not out alongside a speedy unbeaten 30 from Hardy and Kilgetty were able to celebrate, with Ian Poole deserving a special mention for bringing Kilgetty’s talented young team back to the top echelon before stepping down so that another young player could have the chance of playing at this level!

Pembroke lose – but still gain promotion

Llangwm (154 for 7) beat Pembroke (152 all out) by 3 wickets

Umpires: Rob Bellerby & John Willington
Scorer: Jeff Saies (Llangwm)

Pembroke were totally downcast at Pill Parks as they thought defeat at the hands of Llangwm had cost them promotion but disappointment turned to joy when they learned that just up the road Burton had failed by one wicket to edge them out of a place in the top echelon.

Put in to bat by Llangwm skipper Joseph Kiff, Pembroke mustered 152 all out but failed to use seven of their allotted 45 overs as only Phil Hay (46), Jack Harries (33) and Jake Seaton (17) ever stayed long against the bowling of Matthew Kiff (4 for 47), Chris Inward (2 for 5 in six overs), Phil Llewellyn (2 for 24) and Gary Phillips (2 for 15).

Llangwm were also in a hurry to score runs via James Venables (45), Phil Llewellyn (30) and Matthew Kiff (29) as they took only 22 overs to reach their target as Sam Davies (4 for 49), Andrew Hay (2 for 13) and Billy Wood (1 for 25) were the Pembroke bowlers with wickets before Llangwm skipper Joseph Kiff finished the game in true Llangwm style with a big six into the next field!

Hook finish off season in style

Hook (92 for 7) beat Whitland 2nds (89 all out) by 3 wickets

Bradley Flood - led Hook to victory with runs and wicketsUmpires: Simon Richards & Bob Elliott
Scorers: Joy James & Rob Benjamin

Hook went down into division three with a morale-boosting home win over Whitland Seconds to show that they are more than capable of bouncing back next season if they can recapture this sort of form in 2017.

Hook bowled and fielded well from the outset as only Whitland skipper Wayne Jones (29), Dai Lee (17) and Matthew Lewis (20 not out) again provided the bulk of their less than satisfactory final total against the bowling of Callum James (1 for 14), Noah Davies (1 for 6), skipper Bradley Flood (2 for 13), Jake Wicks (2 for 24) and especially Brennan Martin (4 for 2 in 5.5 overs).

Hook did conspire to lose seven wickets as they chased down their target in only 20.4 overs against Geraint Phillips (3 for 33), Stuart Harries (2 for 22), Gethin Scourfield (1 for 13) and Matthew Lewis (1 for 18) but solid knocks from Callum James (19) and skipper Flood (25) allowed Tom Blaxland to steer them home with a typically calm 25 not out!

Burton go so close to snatching promotion

Burton (212 for 5) drew with Stackpole (152 for 9)

James Davies - runs and wickets for BurtonUmpires: Les Hastings & Paul Webb
Scorers: Dennis Venables & Claire Cox

Burton went within a whisker of gaining promotion but their inability to remove Stackpole veterans Owen Cox and Keith Adie from the nerve-wracking final over at Oatfield Park gave the visitors a draw – and sent neighbours Pembroke into division one!

Burton’s sizeable score owed much to Toby Hayman (49), Dan Wilks (44 not out), Richard Jones (43) and James Davies (23 not out) as Stackpole’s successful bowlers were Alan Webster (3 for 29) and Simon Bevan (1 for 41).

Stackpole’s runs came mainly from Rob Mathias (36), John Williams (30) and Richard Mackay (20) as brothers James Davies (3 for 31) and Jack Davies (3 for 63) claimed the lion’s share of the Burton wickets prior to that fateful last over, which ultimately decided the second spot in the promotion battle!

Cresselly find it Tough going at The Racecourse

Haverfordwest 2nds (234 for 3) beat Cresselly 2nds (130 all out) by 104 runs

Umpires: No umpires
Scorers: Kelly Williams & Des Brace

An excellent display with bat and ball by Paul Tough helped Haverfordwest secure the spoils against their counterparts from Cresselly, who now have to face life in the third division for the first time in many years.

Haverfordwest Second’s final challenging score owed a great deal to a very productive second wicket stand of 160 as Paul Tough struck eight fours and two sixes in a splendid century before he was caught soon afterwards by Richard Harris off Lyn Richards’ bowling.

Nitin Mathias was equally as free-scoring in his innings of 80 before he was bowled by Cresselly captain Harris and there were late cameos from Kieran O’Connor (16) and Jake Merry (10 not out) as Richards ended with 2 for 40 and Harries claimed 1 for 33.

When Cresselly batted after tea they had a solid 29 from Simon Hart MP alongside 43 from Harris and 26 from ‘Mr Extras’ but they were never able to match the required run rate and lost wickets at key times to Simon Williams (2 for 20), Clive Tucker (3 for 25) and Paul Tough, whose 2 for 3 analysis helped keep the Town Seconds in a respectable sixth place in the section table.
