Dafydd drives Carew to Racecourse success

Haverfordwest 2nds (110 all out) lost to Carew 2nds (111 for 3) by 7 wickets

Umpires: Dave Brandon and Jake Humbles
Scorer: Kelly Williams (Haverfordwest)

Carew Seconds were good value for victory against their counterparts from Haverfordwest as they bowled and batted better, especially with regard to wicketkeeper Dafydd Bevan’s excellent 57 not out.

But there were moments of concern as the teams went off because of rain a couple of times, the second when they needed only four runs to win – although the weather relented long enough for justice to be done.
Haverfordwest started well enough via Paul Tough (25) and Sean Williams (16) but only Nigel Morgan 916) ever looked settled thereafter against Dan Edwards (1 for 29), Joel Reid (3 for 30) and veteran Kerry Waters, whose special 6 for 15 haul belied his 50 years.

Chasing 111 to win, Bevan looked in fine fettle from the outset with a boundary-laden 57 and after losing a few wickets Carew had Che Thomas (32 not out) giving Bevan support for a deserved win.

Rain ruins Stackpole hopes

Llanrhian (148 all out) v Stackpole (103 for 3) – match abandoned because of rain

Paul Lewis struck 35 for LlanrhianUmpires: Tony Waldeis and Bob Elliott
Scorer: Clare Cox (Stackpole)

Heavy rain swept across Llandigige Fawr to prevent what seemed a likely victory for Stackpole as they stood at 103 for 3 in response to Llanrhian’s 148 all out, especially since three of the home fielders had to leave play at 6pm!

Paul Lewis (35), Dafydd Williams (25) and Rob John (20) were the pick of the home batting line-up as they were dismissed in 42 overs, thanks to the accurate bowling of Lewys Gibby (3 for 32), Jack Corbett (3 for 42), Simon Bevan (2 for 28) and Russell Roberts (2 for 23).

Then Jonathan Hughes led the Stackpole response with a cracking 49 not out and Hugh Davies supported with  25 but then the rains swept in to deny Hughes a half century – and his team a welcome win!

Narberth knock over Llechryd early

Narberth (94 for 3) beat Llechryd (93 all out) by 7 wickets

Ritchie Adams 47 not out for NarberthUmpires: Les Hastings and Glyn Pawlett
Scorers: Gary Hughes and Will Newell

Narberth earned the fastest finish in the division as they knocked over the Llechryd batting for only 93 runs and then took fewer than 19 overs to reach their target whilst losing only three wickets.

Just a point separated the teams at the top of the table but it was Narberth who went clear at the top as only 14 year old Tomos Davies (37) and Leighton O’Connor (16) ever looked comfortable for Llechryd as they found it hard going against Loui Davies (3 for 11) and Lewis Hough (3 for 24) alongside a wicket apiece for Ben Quartermaine, Owen Richards and Ben Hughes.

When Narberth batted Ritchie Adams maintained his good early-season form with 47 not out in partnership with skipper Jordan Howell (32 not out) to ease Narberth home, despite the bowling efforts for Llechryd of Peter Betterley (1 for 22), Ben Kiss (1 for 25) and Leighton O’Connor (1 for 21).

Llangwm win high-scoring tussle

Saundersfoot (162 all out) lost to Llangwm (182 all out) by 20 runs

Umpires: Robert Ridge and Mervyn John

There were runs aplenty as Llangwm scored 182 all out against home club Saundersfoot and managed to dismiss the opposition 21 runs short of victory and earn second spot in the table.

The Llangwm total owed much to another half century from in-form opener Will Beresford (56) and Richard Brock 926) as the Mansbridge brothers John (4 for 27) and Tom (4 for 44) claimed the bulk of the wickets for Saundersfoot.

Then dad Paul Mansbridge completed a good family day with 38 alongside James Caine (43) but good Llangwm bowling, led by Luke Brock (4 for 42) and Noah Davies (3 for 34) helped Llangwm to a good win.

No decision because of rain at Oatfield Park

Burton v (246 for 5 Dec after 41 overs) v Whitland 2nds (116 for 7) – match abandoned because of rain

Umpires: Arthur Brady and Simon Richards
Scorer: Jenny Davies-Scourfield (Whitland)

Heavy rain halted play at Oatfield Park at a time when Burton looked likely to beat Whitland Seconds after declaring on 246 for 5 and giving the visitors five of their overs as an incentive to chase down such a big score but at the time when the match was called off Whitland still needed 131 runs from ten overs.

Skipper Richard Jones had launched Burton to their high score with 12 fours and a six in his 77 as he was joined by James Davies (29), Luke Hayman (37), Martin James (25 not out) and especially Jonathan Venables (58) as Gregg Sleep (3 for 46), Gethin Scourfield (1 for 32) and Gethin Benjamin (1 for 75) were the Whitland wicket takers.

Dai Lee (27) and Nathan Evans (16) were the pick of the early batsmen before Connor Bowen (38 not out) and Hywel Bevan (13 not out) held out well, despite the yeoman efforts of Johnny Scale (3 for 9), Nick Jones (2 for 22) and Morgan Scale (2 for 23) as the pick of the Burton bowlers.
