Llangwm took another giant step towards winning the divisional title and promotion back to the first division as the main goal following victory in this top of the table clash at Narberth, who looked certain to win after 75% of the match.

At that stage the homesters stood at 88 for 1 in pursuit of Llangwm’s disappointing 140 all out but then Kyle Quartermaine departed to Matthew Kiff, who ended up with impressive figures of 6 for 47 alongside Phil Llewellyn (3 for 26) and Chris Inward, making a welcome return to local cricket with 1 for 20.

Put in to bat first, Llangwm had cameos from Huw Brock (17), Noah Davies (18), Will Beresford (20) and James Venables (12) as only Llewellyn (44) ever looked settled against Ben Quartermaine (1 for 29), Matthew Johns (3 for 16), Ben Hughes (1 for 43) and skipper Jordan Howell, who grabbed 5 for 6 in his devastating late spell that broke the back of the Llangwm innings.

Narberth lost Aaron Keane for 10 but Ritchie Adams (32) and Kyle Quartermaine added 75 runs before the latter departed for 47 (seven fours and two sixes) – and when Adams was removed for 32 only Davy Johns managed double figures as the home side drifted to a 17-run defeat.

Llechryd’s recent run of good form was brought to an abrupt halt at Oatfield Park as good bowling by the Burton trio of James Davies, Luke Hayman and Morgan Scale saw them shot out for a paltry 61 before the game quickly ended as the home openers Martin James and Jack Davies saw them home in under 10 overs and without the loss of a single wicket.

Only Ollie Roberts (20) and James Betterley (14) managed double figures when Llechryd were invited to bat first against James Davies (4 for 12), Luke Hayman (3 for 17) and Morgan Scale (2 for 8).

Then Jack Davies adopted the anchor role with a carefully-compiled 19 not out as James went on the attack and his undefeated 43 (seven fours) saw Burton home in double-quick time.

Llanrhian last pair holds on for the draw

Haverfordwest 2nds (170 for 9) drew with Llanrhian (101 for 9)

Umpire: Dave Bonner
Scorers: Kelly Williams & Joanne Phillips

Jack Jones took three wickets and stroked 31 runs for LlanrhianThe key relegation battle in Division Two went the way of Haverfordwest 2nds as they picked up a winning draw against Llanrhian.

Put into bat, it was home openers Paul Tough and Nigel Morgan who laid the platform for The Town, putting on 84 before Tough fell to Jack Jones for 28 (four fours).

Morgan went on to make 42 (eight fours), and then Josh Hicks came in and added a hard hitting 37 (seven fours).

Jake Merry also added 16, but The Town, who chose to bolster their side with first team regulars in a bid to avoid the drop, stalled somewhat in the latter overs as they finished 170 for 9 – as Mathew Bennett (3 for 37), Karl Davies (1 for 20), Tom Clarke (1 for 42), and Jack Jones (3 for 60) took wickets for the visitors.

The Llanrhian reply started well until opener Paul Lewis was brilliantly run out by Nigel Delaney for 26 (five fours), and after that they were always well behind the rate, as only Rhodri Owen (13), No 3 Jones (31 – two fours and a six), and Mathew Bennett (13) reached double figures.

For Simon Williams’ team, Adam James took 2 for 26, veteran spinner Clive Tucker 4 for 30, and Nigel Morgan 2 for 12 – but needing one wicket with three overs left, the Llanrhian final pairing of Clarke and Fraser Watson (both 1 not out) stood firm to deny The Town an outright win.

Saundersfoot gained a 36-run victory over Carew Seconds and in doing so leap-frogged their opponents and into fifth place in the table.

Batting first, the Seasiders’ strong score of 209 for 6 owed much to a classy 70 from veteran run-maker Paul Mansbridge alongside a typically robust 58 from James Caine, with James Hinchliffe leading the Carew bowling on 3 for 42.

Daf Bevan (29) and Robbie Hicks (26) were amongst the Carew batsmen who contributed but Saundersfoot skipper Sam Franklyn (4 for 56) and Neil Powling (2 for 22) bowled well to limit them to 173 all out in 38 overs.

Runs aplenty in entertaining draw

Whitland 2nds (202 for 9) drew with Stackpole (215 for 4)

Umpires: Glyn Pawlett & Bob Elliott
Scorer: Jenny Davies-Scourfield

Jack Bowen belted 89 for Whitland SecondsThere were runs aplenty at Spring Hill as visitors Stackpole reached a challenging 215 for 4 in their 45 overs before Whitland Seconds responded with 202 for 9 as ‘tail-end Charlies’ Ben Harvey and Stuart Harries held out for five overs in a tense finale.

Rob Mathias (23), Simon Bevan (62, including eight fours) and Josh Davies (seven fours and three sixes in a swashbuckling 72) were joined by a late 25 not out by John Williams as Connor Bowen (2 for 54) and Geraint Phillips (1 for 55) were the only successful home bowlers.

Connor Bowen (24) and Paul Oeppen (28) gave Whitland a steady start in response before Jack Bowen launched a real counter-attack with his terrific 89 (seven fours and five big sixes) but steady bowling by George Smith (3 for 66), Simon Bevan (2 for 38), Rob Mathias (2 for 22) and Marcus Adie (1 for 53) made sure that although Whitland came close towards the finish they were always a little behind the run-rate.
