Crymych century maker Elgan Vittle

Crymych welcomed back Elgan Vittle to their batting line up against Hook 2nds and he scored an impressive 101 alongside Osian Wyn (36) and Rhodri Thomas (37) but they still lost a high-scoring tussle by eight runs as they just failed to chase down Hook’s impressive 221 for 7.

Lee Morgan and Jamie Phelps contributed 47 apiece and Matt Holder chipped in with a late 35 not out to ease Hook home.

Burton 2nds scored 204 for 9 and then restricted their counterparts from Llechryd to 141 for 9 at Oatfield Park as newcomer Chris Oliphant led the way with an impressive 95 runs alongside Aled Thomas (39) and Nick Jones (32) as the evergreen Peter Betterly claimed 2 for 31 for the visitors.

Peter Gregory (42), Neil Croucher (25 not out) and Oliver Roberts (23) led the Llechryd batting but good spells by Thomas (2 for 29), Ioan Roberts (2 for 14) and Jones (3 for 32) helped Burton win well.

There was a tense finish as Lawrenny 2nds edged home by a single wicket against Whitland 2nds, with talented teenager Finlay Lewis contributing 18 not out after an earlier 2 for 9 spell. Hywel Bevan (42) topped the Borderers’ batting alongside Daf Evans (17) and Gethin Benjamin (15 as well as figures of 3 for 12) – and Lewis was joined by Matthew Kidney (4 for 20), Patrick Elliott (2 for 13) and Stuart Prosser (2 for 25) as Lawrenny wicket-takers.

Matthew Lewis used his experience to good effect as he top-scored with 40 and other Lawrenny run-makers were Steve Campbell (20) and then Lewis with those vital late runs.

Good respective performances with bat and ball by John Arundel (63 not out) and Rhodri Owen (6 for 43) helped Llanrhian 2nds win well against Kilgetty 2nds, whose final tally of 108 all out owed much to Darren Rees (27), Brian Cullen (25)  and Taine Brace (25) as Owen was joined by Jack Turner (2 for 18) as main wicket-takers.

Then Arundel showed his batting class as Brace (2 for 24) was the pick of the home bowling attack.

And finally, spare a thought for Saundersfoot 2nds against Carew 3rds, where the latter stood at 20 for 2 when the weather intervened and they became the only teams to suffer. Never mind lads – better luck next time!
