Summons sets up a narrow Johnston win
Johnston (157 all out) beat Cresselly 2nds (134 all out) by 23 runs
It was a tense game in Glebelands as Johnston’s total of 157 all out proved enough to prevail against Cresselly 2nds by just 23 runs.
The home side had a poor start when opener Geno Cleal was bowled by Ollie Berry without scoring, and fellow opener Leigh Walters hit four boundaries in a quick-fire 18 before falling to Morgan Lewis in the same fashion.
But it was No 3 Lee Summons who then held the innings together with a six and five fours in his knock of 66, before he too fell to Lewis, to help his side to a total of 157 all out.
For The Doves, Lewis led the bowling with 4 for 34, backed up by Berry (2 for 28), Matthew Lewis (2 for 43) and Lyn Richards (1 for 23).
Cresselly looked well set at 54 for 1 in their reply but then came a crucial period where they lost three wickets for three runs.
It turned the tide and despite a top score of 45 from opener Mike Venables (seven fours) and a defiant 31 from No 8 Richards, Mark Hicks (1 for 15), Keegan Codd (2 for 33), Chris Fitzpatrick (2 for 31), Summons (2 for 10) and Gary James (1 for 22) helped The Tigers get the job done.
Howell and Reekie leave The Town reeling
Narberth (106 for 1) beat Haverfordwest 3rds (105 all out) by 9 wickets
Reekie took 4 for 35 and Howell 3 for 10 as The Town were shot out for 105, Neil Crawhsaw top scoring with 34.
The hosts then only lost one wicket in their reply and although Mike Johns had to retire hurt on 35, fellow opener Andrew Williams (28) helped tee up a nine wicket win.
Laugharne's bowlers shoot out Stackpole
Bosherston and Stackpole (67 all out) lost to Laugharne (68 for 5) by 5 wickets
Laugharne’s bowling attack struck early to help them a notch a win at Stackpole.
Carl Smith (2 for 9), James Ingledon (3 for 20) and Simon Davies (2 for 17) were all on the money to dismiss the hosts for just 67.
However, Paul Oeppen then produced a spell of 3 for 6 to complicate what looked a simple chase for Laugharne, who in the end were indebted to 33 from James Devonald to see them over the line.
Karl canes Llangwm with a super century
St Ishmaels 2nds (257 for 1) beat Llangwm 2nds (160 for 7) by 97 runs
One of the knocks of the day came from Tish 2nds’ opener Karl Rhead as he smashed 163 not out.
He wasn’t alone in putting Llangwm 2nds to the sword as skipper Robbie Thomas opened with 25 and Andrew Williams also made an unbeaten 57 in a massive total of 257 for 1.
To the credit of the visitors they did show some fight in their reply as David Lewis made 59 not out and Daniel Morgan hit 23, but the bowling of Rob Thomas (3 for 26) and Thomas Williams (2 for 33) ensured they never threatened the target.
Jones and Strawbridge star as Llanrhian beat Neyland
Neyland 2nds (129 all out) lost to Llanrhian (207 for 6) by 78 runs
Jones hit six fours in his 83 before Jack John (2 for 27) bowled him to prevent him reaching three figures.
The turning point however, came in the last five overs of the away innings, as they went from 150 for 5 to 207 for 6 as Tom Clarke blasted 33 (three fours and two sixes) and skipper Nigel Delaney 27 not out (two fours and a six).
For the hosts, as well as John there was two wickets each for Gary Lloyd (2 for 23) and Rodney Murphy (2 for 62).
Opener Lyn Rees then gave Neyland hope with a typically steady 44 (six fours), while No 3 Stephen Murray whacked four fours and a six in his 28, and George Evans chipped in with the same score.
But Strawbridge removed all three and went on to post figures of 5 for 18 in eight overs, while Jones (3 for 25), Clarke (1 for 20) and Delaney (1 for 3) rounded off a good day for The Cows.
