Seasiders win in a thrilling finish
Carew (137 all out) lost to Saundersfoot (145 all out) by 8 runs
Umpires: Dave Bonner & Allan Hansen
Scorers: Julie Davies & Adge John
The Mansbridge family was very much in evidence in the Saundersfoot innings as dad Paul scored 23, whilst sons Tom and John scored 26 and 32 respectively before Danny Brace also chipped in with 32 to help The Seasiders finally reach a respectable 145 all out in 43.2 overs.
Carew skipper Shaun Whitfield certainly led his bowling attack by example with 4 for 19 from his nine overs, whilst Ceri Brace (2 for 31), Sion Jenkins (1 for 16), Iori Hicks (1 for 11) and Tim Hicks (1 for 16) were the other successful home bowlers.
In Carew’s batting line-up a number of players got a start but persistent Saundersfoot bowling and fielding saw The Rooks lose wickets at regular times to Sam Franklyn (2 for 30), Neil Powling (1 for 27), John Mansbridge (1 for 19), Nick Cope (2 for 36) and especially Tudor Hurle, who claimed 4 for 15 against his former club.
Tim Hicks (20), Nick Davies (11), Nick Scourfield (21), Shaun Whitfield (25), Luke Hicks (22) and Sion Jenkins (13) fell into that category and Saundersfoot’s narrow success, their second of the season, saw them climb to seventh spot in the table as reward.
Izzard and Sutton lead the way for Cresselly
By Bill Carne
Cresselly (260 for 6) beat Whitland (145 all out) by 115 runs
Umpires: Rob Bellerby & Tony Walsh
Scorers: Teagan Cartwright & Ann-Marie Jenkins
Cresselly picked up maximum points with their easy home victory over Whitland as they amassed a huge total and then bowled and fielded so well that although there were some solid scores for The Borderers, no-one was able to stay long enough to exert a real influence.
The Cresselly innings was built around two excellent performances from in-form opener Dan Sutton (65 from 64 deliveries and including nine boundaries before he was adjudged lbw to Sion Jenkins) and skipper Iwan Izzard, who looked back to something like his best form with 8 fours and 4 sixes in his 79 from 69 balls before he was well caught by Scott Newton off teenager Luc Owen.
Matthew Morgan clearly didn’t fancy running too much in the heat as his 44 including ten boundaries and Phil Williams also chipped in towards such a big score with 24 before Simon Cole helped finish the innings with 24 not out.
For Whitland, the wickets were claimed by Luc Owen, with excellent figures of 3 for 29, Gethin Scourfield (1 for 35), Scott Newton (2 for 34) and skipper Jonathan Thomas (1 for 45) – but they faced a daunting prospect after the interval.
And although Jack Bowen (23), Scott Newton (19), Connor Bowen (18), Dylan Blain (18) and Kevin Pearce (13) all managed double figures the excellent pressure exerted by Tom Arthur (3 for 24) and Ryan Lewis (3 for 37) meant there was little doubt about the result almost from the outset and Dan James (1 for 21), Simon Cole (1 for 10), Tom Murphy (1 for 39) and skipper Izzard (1 for 1) helped seal a win that gave The Doves maximum points – and with Neyland’s forced inactivity to them to the top of the table by a single point!
Field brothers fire The Town
Llechryd (221 for 7) lost to Haverfordwest (226 for 5) by 5 wickets
Scorer: Peter Betterley & Jayne Cole
Llechryd decided to bat first and Curran served early notice of intent with some pleasing early strokes that brought boundaries and he sped passed the 50 and 100 marks en route to a superb score of 132 (16 fours and 3 sixes) before he was finally caught by wicketkeeper John Ebenezer on his first team debut with the gloves, as part of Johnny White’s 2 for 21 haul.
Clive Tucker also enjoyed an early 2 for 27 stint as Jake Merry finished up with 1 for 36 and pace man Adam James had 24 off his last over for final figures of 1 for 60.
David Dunfee (28) and Johnny Lewis (26) were the other main contributors to the Llechryd cause – but there is no doubt that Curran’s innings will be talked out in the village team’s clubhouse for a long time to come!
Ben Field returned to something like his best form with two fours and five sixes in his top score of 67 whilst brother Dan contributed 36 alongside Archie Thomas (back from injury with 16) and a captain’s knock of 53 not out (six fours) from Dai Davies.
Adam James also made a welcome return to action and blitzed five huge sixes in his 35 as David Dunfee again topped Llechryd’s bowling with 3 for 35 – but The Town still won with 3.1 overs to spare.
Tish's poor run continues as Narberth play well
St Ishmaels (115 all out) lost to Narberth (116 for 5) by 5 wickets
Scorers: Wendy Bradshaw & Gwyneth Johns
Tish lost Peter Bradshaw, back in action after work commitments had kept him out and he was dismissed from his first ball faced, and could only muster 115 all out as Phil Cockburn (23), Brennan Devonald (34), Lewis Rhead (15) and Andrew Pawlett ever stayed long as brothers Matthew and Davy Johns wrought havoc alongside Ben Hughes (1 for 11) and Ben Quartermaine (2 for 27). Matthew finished up with 5 for 27 in 7.2 overs of his canny slow stuff and Davy had 2 for 32.
Tish had a slight ray of hope when Brennan Devonald shifted Had Luff after only five balls but Narberth batted so well via Richard Adams (36), Jamie McCormack (14), Kyle Quartermaine (20), Jordan Hall (19) and Lewis Hough (21 not out) that they reached their target in on 24.4 overs.
Devonald (1 for 32), Andrew Palmer (1 for 43), Andrew Williams (2 for 16) and Andrew Pawlett (1 for 17) were the Tish wicket-takers but they have not won a game since the 15th of May and are now heavily involved in the danger zone.
