Kyle Quartermaine hits a six. Picture Susan McKehonNeyland maintained their quest for league silverware as they maintained their unbeaten record with victory in a competitive game at The Lewis Lloyd Ground against a gritty Narberth team – a win that puts them back on top despite the fact that they have played a game fewer than their nearest opponents.

Narberth made a solid start against Neyland as ‘Mr Reliable’ opener Richard Adams scored 31 and Kyle Quartermaine gave real impetus to the innings with three big sixes and 6 fours in his 47 before he was adjudged lbw to Ross Hardy.

Kyle Williams (18), Ben Hughes (16) and Davy Johns (16 not out) were the other main Narberth contributors in their 154 all out in the 32nd over as Hardy (3 for 29) and Andrew Miller (3 for 39) were joined by Nathan Banner (2 for 34) and Tom Pritchard (1 for 25) as Neyland wicket-takers.

Neyland’s  successful response was initiated by Nick Koomen (24) and Gregg Miller (25) before Ross Hardy blitzed three fours and two maximums in his speedy 30 as Ashley Sutton led the way as he reached 50 from 51 deliveries before finishing undefeated on 58, a vital innings that included four fours, three sixes and a five!

Loui Davies (1 for 23), Lewis Hough (2 for 18), Matthew Johns (1 for 33) and his brother Davy (1 for 14) were the Narberth wicket-takers but although Neyland lost 6 wickets they chased down what looked a decent score in only 27.3 overs!

Rooks on rampage against tired-looking Town

Haverfordwest (91 all out) lost to Carew (193 for 8) by 102 runs

Umpires: Dave Bonner & Richard Merriman
Scorers: Jayne Cole & Julie Davies

Matches between old rivals Haverfordwest and Carew are traditionally hard-fought but on this occasion it was The Rooks who held sway after being asked to bat first and reaching a challenging 193 for 8 before easily shifting the poor Town batting as only three players managed double figures so they couldn’t even muster three figures!

Nick Davies continued his superb form as Carew opener with top score of 51 runs alongside Tim Hicks (23), Shaun Whitfield (19) and Luke Hicks (15), whilst a late 36 from Rhys Davies and 26 from ‘Mr Extras’ certainly boosted the final Carew tally as only Town skipper Dai Davies (4 for 35) and Jake Merry (2 for 40) got amongst the wickets as several chances were also spilled.

The Town lost early wickets and never got into any rhythm so that only Ben Field (23) and Nikhil Mathias (17) managed double figures, other than a late 10 not out from keeper Jack Scriven.

Carew captain Shaun Whitfield was again on form with 3 for 21 and spinner Ceri Brace matched him with 3 for 23 – with Iori Hicks also claiming 3 for 21 and Sam Harts 1 for 17 so that The Town were bustled out in only 31.4 overs.

Tish claw their way back to winning ways

St Ishmaels (136 for 6) beat Whitland (134 all out) by 4 wickets

Umpires: Arthur Brady & Tony Walsh
Scorers: Wendy Bradshaw & Ann-Marie Jenkins

St Ishmaels celebrated their second win of the season as they asked Whitland to bat first, limited them to a score that wasn’t a massive one, and then chased it down with a much improved performance than of late.

Visiting Whitland mustered 134 all out in 43.2 overs, thanks in the main to opener Dylan Blain (39) and skipper Jonathan Thomas (37), with Jacob Owen as their only other batsman in double figures with 13.

For Tish, the wickets were shared amongst Jonathan Pawlett (3 for 22), Andrew Williams (2 for 14), Ieuan Hawkins (2 for 24), Lewis Rhead (1 for 16) and Andrew Pawlett (1 for 22).

Then it was their two most experienced batsmen who led the Tish response as Peter Bradshaw top scored with 63 (10 fours) before he was run out late on – and Andrew Williams supplied the spine of the Tish batting with an unbeaten 41 (seven boundaries). Also providing a couple of late fireworks was Steve Hartley, who normally keeps wicket for the seconds but belted a four and a big six in his 10 not out so that his side won in 43 overs despite good Whitland bowling from Wayne Howells (2 for 12) and Scott Newton (2 for 22).

Kurtis shows his class as Lawrenny chase down a huge local derby score

Lawrenny (224 for 4) beat Cresselly (222 for 9) by 6 wickets

Umpires: Dave Brandon & Allan Hansen
Scorers: Malcolm Thomas & Jess Lewis

Kurtis Marsh struck another fine centuryThere was a mountain of runs in the local derby at Lawrenny as Cresselly amassed 222 for 9 in their allotted 45 overs and, thanks to another brilliant unbeaten century by Kurtis Marsh the home club ran out victorious with six wickets and over three overs still in hand.

Alex Bayley (3 fours and a six in his 38) and 32 by another big hitter in Ryan Lewis were important features of the Cresselly innings but a third-wicket stand of 119 between in-form run-makers Dan Sutton and Simon Cole proved to be the major factor, with Sutton striking six fours in his 65 and Cole stroking eight boundaries in his 63.

Rob Williams (2 for 25), Ryan Morton (2 for 36), Joe Kidney (1 for 21), and Harry Thomas (2 for 51) claimed wickets for Lawrenny before Kyle Marsh bowled one over at the end and grabbed 2 for 13!

Kyle Marsh also batted well after the interval with 32 (three fours and two sixes) as Lawrenny moved to 123 for 4 against Ryan Lewis, who struck early to claim 2 for 27 in 8.1 overs, Charlie Arthur (1 for 48), Tom Arthur (1 for 36).

But Kurtis Marsh had already served notice of intent as he passed the 50 mark and found a willing ally in Ryan Morton, who is currently one of the best all-rounders in the county, and their unbroken stand of 101 took Lawrenny home.

Kurtis Marsh ended up with 13 fours and two sixes in his 101 not out and Morton belted two fours and five big sixes en route to 58 not out, keeping their side very much still in the race for the silverware before their rearranged game with Carew today.

Seasiders slam basement battlers Llechryd

Saundersfoot (114 for 3) beat Llechryd (113 all out) by 7 wickets

Umpires: Gareth Brace & Chris Stapleton
Scorers: Adge John & Becky Dow

Saundersfoot continued to distance themselves from the relegation danger zone as they entertained a Llechryd side still desperately seeking a first win of the season.

Llechryd had steady runs from John Curran (21) and David Dunfee (36) but no one could stay long afterwards to join Joe Mansfield (30 not out) in a fight-back of any sort and they were dismissed in only 32 overs as Neil Powling (1 for 31), Sam Franklyn (3 for 39), Tudor Hurle (2 for 15) and especially Nick Cope (4 for 25).

Saundersfoot then showed them how to build a total as Tom Mansbridge (29), Scott Helmich (33) and Franklyn (18) batted steadily before John Mansbridge (18 not out) and Cope (9 not out) eased the Seasiders home in only 24 overs, with the only successful Llechryd bowlers being Dunfee (1 for 18) and talented 17 year old Joe Dow (2 for 18).
