Kurtis continues his amazing weekend form

Carew (205 for 9) lost to Lawrenny (207 for 7)

Umpires: Chris Stapleton & Steve Williams
Scorers: Julie Davies & Malcolm Thomas

Lawrenny runs gatherer Kurtis MarshKurtis Marsh scored a special 101 not out for Lawrenny in a welcome win against neighbours Cresselly on Saturday and then added an equally assured 90 not out in their other local derby at Carew 24 hours later to help take his side to within two points of leaders Neyland in what some pundits now believe is turning into something of a two-horse race for the title.

Brian Hall topped the Carew batting with four boundaries in his 55 alongside Rhys Davies (36), Tim Hicks and Ian Sefton (both 28), plus Iori Hicks (18 not out) as Rob Williams (2 for 28), Ryan Morton (3 for 59) and Harry Thomas (1 for 32) were joined by talented teenager Finlay Lewis (2 for 36).

Harry Thomas scored 15 as he opened the batting for Lawrenny in partnership with Kurtis Marsh, who struck the ball to the boundary so regularly that by the time he had finished undefeated on 90 he had accumulated 16 fours.

Skipper Joe Kidney (10), James Phillips (32, including four fours and a six) and James Buckle (24) kept Marsh company along the way before Thomas Cole finished alongside Marsh with 12 not out.

Rhys Davies (3 for 37) Ceri Brace (1 for 55), James Hinchliffe (1 for 52) and Tim Hicks (1 for 11) picked up wickets for Carew but as well as the disappointment of defeat they also lost skipper Shaun Whitfield with an ankle injury that could keep him out of the game for a while!

Division Two:

Stags leap out of bottom two in the table

Lamphey (107 for 0) beat Carew 2nds (101 all out) by 10 wickets

David Blackwell struck a boundary-laden half century for The StagsLamphey leapt out of the bottom two in the section table with this welcome win over Carew 2nds as reward for restricting The Rooks to 101 all out in 36.3 overs and then reaching their target without the loss of a single wicket in only 17.3 overs.

Veterans Kerry Waters (23) and skipper Barry Evans (45 not out) were joined by Chris Cole as the only Carew batsmen in double figures as Peter McGilloway (4 for 17) and David Dredge (4 for 29) were the Lamphey strike bowlers.

McGilloway then showed what an excellent all-rounder he has become with a boundary-laden innings of 51 not out and David Blackwell showed his class with 52 not out that also had its share of boundaries as an early finish was very much the order of the day.

Division Four:

Kern makes a welcome Burton return

Carew 3rds (126 all out) lost to Burton 2nds (254 for 8) by 128 runs

Kern Cunningham made a welcome return with a power-hitting 82 for Burton 2ndsBurton Seconds proved to be far too strong for a young Carew Thirds as they batted first and amassed 254 for 8 in their allotted 40 overs before reducing the home side to 126 all out in 36 overs.

And leading the way for the visitors was Kern Cunningham, making a welcome return for the club and showing the sort of power-hitting in his 82 that marks him as a likely first-team player alongside Dan Ridge (38) and Dan Llewellyn (26) despite the efforts of Mark White (2 for 27), Jamie Heaps (3 for 30) and Corey Hall (1 for 26).

Heaps also topped the Carew batting with 35 and young Ethan hall contributed a hard-hitting 35 but the bowling of Ioan Roberts (3 for 22), Dan Griffiths (3 for 31) and N Jones (3 for 18) proved decisive in taking Burton to an easy win – but Credit is due to the Carew side for sticking to their task.
