Superb opening bowling spells by Matthew Webb and James Davies laid the foundations for Burton’s deserved five-wicket victory in 25.2 overs against leaders Pembroke Dock at Oatfield Park.
The visitors were put into bat, and they were never able to settle as Webb (3 for 31) and Davies (3 for 40) ripped through the Dock’s early order leaving The Dock reeling on 45 for 6.
Dock’s Jake Davies (10, two fours) with the score on 22 was the first to fall, the opener was well caught by Jack Davies off the medium pace of his brother James.
Jake Griffiths (19, three fours) was clean bowled by Webb, Toby Hayman took a fine catch to get rid of George Smith (1).
Scott Griffiths was caught behind by Iestyn Evans off Webb, Nick Daley (1) was caught by Toby Hayman, his second catch of the afternoon off the bowling of James Davies. Tom Grimwood was run out taking a risky single.
Archie Hillier Wood (23, two fours) top scored and Scott Brunton (15, two sixes) tried to address their side’s low score. Web caught and bowled Hillier Wood, then Webb took a superb one-handed catch to get rid of Brunton off the bowling of skipper Luke Hayman (1 for 2 and Jack Davies returned figures of 2 for 10.
Rob Hearn was out for a duck and classy opener Toby Hayman led the response with a steady innings of 42 (three fours, three sixes) despite losing James Davies early to a run out with the score on 11.
But the hosts comfortably got over the line in 26.1 overs as Jonathan Venables (15, three fours), Luke Hayman (10, two fours), Morgan Scale (5) and James Davies not out (19, three fours and a six) all chipped in with Dock’s George Smith impressing with 4 for 26 as their only wicket-taker.
Experience counts for Rooks’ second string

Kilgetty (177 all out) lost to Carew 2nds (178 for 3) by 7 wickets
The experience of Carew 2nds saw them get the better of Kilgetty as the visitors claimed a seven-wicket victory at Kingsmoor.
The home side batted first, and they got off to a steady start as Anthony Bevan (48), Toby Poole (35), Sam Rossiter (18), Tom Lewis (12), Rob Beynon (12) and Andrew Evans (12) all gathered runs. However, wickets fell regularly as skipper Barry Evans (4 for 38) was the main wicket taker alongside Jacob Knox (2 for 24), Kerry Waters (1-19), his son George (1 for 49) and Ethan Hall (1 for 21).
The Rooks’ second string gained a solid start with Hadyn Shapcott (45) and Gareth Lewis (33) before Brian Hall (23no) and Chris Cole (21no) saw them home despite Kilgetty’s Andrew Evans (3 for 29) finished with impressive bowling figures.
Delighted Hook win at Treleet

Hook were delighted to come away from Treleet with a four-wicket victory against mid-table Pembroke.
Despite a damp outfield the home team batted well with Paul White (70no) was top scorer with others Luke Butler (39), Jack Harries 28 and debutant Steve Durston all added useful runs.
Hook’s Matthew Holder (2 for 36) and Aled Phelps (2 for 38) took wickets apiece plus Owen Phelps (1 for 13) took a wicket.
Pembroke’s off spinner Durston (3 for 27) took three wickets with teammates Sam Davies (1 for 18) and Rob Smythe took a wicket apiece.
But it wasn’t enough to stop Hook as they claimed the all-important win thanks to decent innings by Callum James (37no), Louis Miller (32), Aled Phelps (29), Owen Phelps (26), and Seth Willington (25).
