National Village Cup Competition – Last 16:

Clipstone & Bilsthorpe (198 for 6) v Neyland (88 for 1) – Match abandoned because of heavy rain

Neyland came within three overs and just nine runs of moving into the last eight at the expense of opponents who head the Bassetlaw and District League but then heavy rain swept in to wipe out further play with Neyland in control at 88 for 1 in 17 overs when, under the rules of the competition they had to complete 20 overs and manage to score 97 runs.

So they were cruelly denied and the teams will have to meet next Sunday, this time in Neyland, although it is understood that Clipstone & Bilsthorpe weren’t anxious to travel 450 miles, as Neyland had to do today.

Be that as it may, Neyland will be eager to try to finish the job they did so well here.

UmpiresStrong fourth-wicket partnership helped C&B to a reasonable total

The home side are known for their strong batting and opted to take first use of their pitch but were in trouble from the first ball, bowled by Henry Durrant, which opener David Wilcox steered into Nick Koomen’s hands in the slips.

Fellow opener Wilson (4) also went cheaply, caught by Gregg Miller off Koomen but then C&B added  98 through Taylor Wright (run out by Ashley Sutton for 46, including six fours) and Chris Fletcher (13 fours and a six in his 88) but both departed close together and it was left to Jake Gorman (18) and Jack Flowers (17) to take them to a reasonable, but not insurmountable tally of 193 for 6 in 40 overs

But Neyland started well as Nick Koomen and Gregg Miller put on 31, with Miller striking three fours in his 17 from 16 balls before removed by Chris Spittlethorpe.

Koomen dropped anchor with 22 not out from 46 deliveries as Ashley Sutton pushed ahead with five fours and a six in his undefeated 36 (42 balls) – and with 13 extras, 10 of them wides, Neyland were in a very strong position – until the heavens opened and ruined things!
