Patrick Bellerby - unbeaten half century for Neyland

Neyland maintain winning momentum

St Ishmaels (94 all out) lost to Neyland (95 for 1) by 9 wickets

Umpires: Dave Brandon & Tony Walsh

Scorers: Wendy Bradshaw & John Laugharne

Neyland maintained their excellent run of league form as they made the journey to St Ishmaels and came away with an easy win after bowling out the opposition for 94 and then taking just 25.3 overs to seal a nine-wicket win.

With their important National Village Cup match the following day Neyland rested several players but only Brennan Devonald (five fours in his hard-hitting 29), Andrew Williams (21) and Ieuan Hicks (20) managed double figures for Tish against Jamie Smith (2 for 17), Brad McDermott-Jenkins (2 for 16) Ross Hardy (3 for 29), Geraint Rees (2 for 6) and Gary Lloyd (back helping out with late figures of 1 for 4).

There was an early shock for Neyland when they batted as Gregg Miller departed for four runs with the score on 5, the victim of an excellent direct hit on the stumps by Andrew Pawlett.

But Patrick Bellerby and Ashley Sutton soon settled in to their familiar pattern of running well between the wickets and punishing anything short or wide of the stumps and, hard as the Tish bowlers tried, there was to be no further successes as Bellerby struck seven boundaries in his undefeated 52 and Sutton supported really well with 35 not out that included one four and a maximum.

Lawrenny stroll to the top of the table

Lawrenny (247 for 9) beat Llechryd (86 all out) by 161 runs

Umpires: Trefor Evans & Dave Bonner

Scorers: Malcolm Thomas & Becky Dow

Ryan Morton - More runs and wickets as Lawrenny go topKurtis Marsh - another brilliant innings for LawrennyLawrenny maintained their powerful thrust for the first division title as they thrashed struggling Llechryd by a massive margin after reaching another big score in which Kurtis Marsh maintained his incredible form – and then shooting out the opposition for a lowly score as Ryan Morton and Jamie Lewis caused havoc
.
Indeed, it might have been an even wider margin as Llechryd lurched to 47 for 9 but their last pair of Graham Keen and teenager Joseph Dow added 39 for the last wicket before Keen was dismissed for 11, leaving Dow stranded on 25 not out as he showed some of his far more experienced colleagues how to battle hard.

Put in to bat, Lawrenny again had Kurtis Marsh in magnificent form as he stroked 16 fours and a six in his 93 before he was well caught on the boundary by young Dow off Johnny Lewis’s bowling.

Kurtis’s brother Kyle chipped in with 17 runs and other important contributions came from James Buckle (five fours and a six in his 38), James Phillips (a swashbuckling 36, including three fours and three sixes) and Ryan Morton (25) as David Dunfee (4 for 45) and Daf Davies (an excellent 4 for 21) joined Lewis (1 for 45) as the Llechryd wicket-takers.

But Llechryd’s ‘big guns’ failed to fire even a minor salvo against Ryan Morton, whose nine overs included four maidens and gave him superb figures of 6 for 9 alongside Jamie Lewis (3 for 22 in nine overs, including three maidens).

Harry Thomas finished things off with a late wicket and Lawrenny continue to show their determination to push Neyland all the way in their quest for a first-ever league title, moving to the top of the tree by a single point and eager to stay there until the end of the season!

Carew win local derby run fest

Cresselly (267 for 7) lost to Carew (270) for 6) by 4 wickets

Umpires: Arthur Brady & Allan Hansen

Scorers: Tegan Cartwright & Julie Davies

There were runs galore on a superb batting track at Cresselly as the home side built a huge total against Carew in this most traditional of local derbies but still couldn’t stop the team from ‘down the hill’ easing home with four wickets and 15 balls still in hand.

As usual, Dan Sutton gave Carew the foundation for their total of 267 for 7 with a stylish 76 that included ten fours and two sixes, sharing in a partnership of 132 with Matthew Morgan (54, including eight boundaries).

Cresselly skipper Iwan Izzard showed what he can to as he rattled up two fours and three sixes in his 60 and Ryan Lewis provided impetus with four big sixes in his 31 from 15 deliveries.

Simon Cole chipped in with 28 as Tim Hicks (2 for 24), Iori Hicks (2 for 49) and Ceri Brace (1 for 45) were the pick of the Carew bowlers.

Tim Hicks made a second important contribution as he also led the Carew batting with a cracking 86 that contained nine fours and three sixes and shared a third-wicket stand of 116 with Ian Sefton, who had four fours and three sixes in his 66 to show he is again a real asset for The Rooks on his welcome return to action.

Luke Hicks scored 26 and then Brian Hall (six fours in his unbeaten 44) and James Hinchliffe (18 not out) steered Carew home and into third place in the table as their reward.

Narberth chase down another big score

Whitland (228 for 8) lost to Narberth (229 for 8) by 2 wickets

Umpires: Neil Thomas & Rob Bellerby

Scorers: Ann-Marie Jenkins & Gwyneth Johns

Ben Quartermaine - topped the batting and bowled well for NarberthFor the second week in succession Narberth chased down a big score after Whitland had set them 229 for victory and they achieved it with two wickets and 15 balls still in hand.

When they beat Haverfordwest the previous week it was the batting fireworks of Kyle Quartermaine that saw them home –and this time he again featured well with brother Ben but a pleasing thing for the club was the fact that no fewer than seven batsmen made useful contributions to show their determination to battle every inch of the way.

Whitland’s challenging tally was centred on the batting exploits of Geraint Jones and skipper Jonathan Thomas as they shared a stand of 122 at an important stage in events, with Jones smashing seven fours and eight huge sixes as only he can before he went for one big hit too many at 93 and was well caught by Richard Adams off Matthew Johns.

Thomas stroked seven fours and a six in his 73 and there were cameos of 14 by Jacob Owen and Jack Bowen (10) as Johns (2 for 48), Ben Quartermaine (2 for 40), Ben Hughes (1 for 48) and Loui Davies (1 for 37) took the wickets for Narberth.

Adams (34) and Jamie McCormack (30) helped set Narberth on their way and there were other contributions from Jordan Howell (20) and Lewis Hough (29) as Kyle Quartermaine smashed three fours and three sixes in his 40 before brother Ben a classy 45 not out) and Dan Hughes (15 not out) saw Narberth home with one over left of an absorbing and entertaining clash.

Mansbridge stars in Seasiders’ success on The Racecourse

Haverfordwest (155 all out) lost to Saundersfoot (201 all out) by 46 runs

Umpires: Gareth Brace & Richard Merriman

Scorers: Jayne Cole & Adge John

Another excellent all-round performance by Saundersfoot, which was headed by John Mansbridge’s runs and wickets, saw them pick up maximum points to defeat Haverfordwest with something in hand, a win that sees them climb to a creditable fourth spot in the table, whilst knocking The Town down to an accustomed seventh spot.

Yet the afternoon started badly as Tom Mansbridge was caught third ball by returnee Huw Scriven at slip off Johnny White’s bowling without a return on the board – but then brother John took control with an excellent 72 that included eight boundaries in his top score of 72, sharing in a second-wicket stand of 117 with Danny Caine, who hit six fours in his 45.

Scott Helmich (22) and Sam Franklyn (11) also made smaller contributions as The Seasiders settled on 201 all out, despite the efforts of White (2 for 39), Jake Merry (2 for 53) and Danny Dewstowe (4 for 57) as the pick of The Town’s bowlers.

Ben Field (36), Danny Potter (24) and skipper Dai Davies (four boundaries in his 54) then formed the backbone of the Haverfordwest response but John Mansbridge was again involved with the ball, taking 2 for 23 after Sam Franklin (3 for 41) and Nick Cope (3 for 21) shared the bulk of the wickets, with Tudor Hurle also claiming 1 for 39, as the Seasiders were good value for victory.
