Hicks hits Johnston to the brink of promotion

Cresselly 2nds (200 for 6) lost to Johnston (231 for 5) by 31 runs

Josh Hicks - runs galore for JohnstonJosh Hicks crashed 122 to keep leaders Johnston on track in a run fest at Cresselly.

With his side 44 for 3, Hicks crashed nine fours and seven sixes in his destructive knock, which was only ended when he was run out late on.

Openers Leigh Walters (18) and Geno Cleal (7) fell early to Josh and Morgan Lewis, and Matthew Lewis also removed Chris Goodridge (10) before Hicks and Walters shared a stand of 116.

Summons made 42 (six fours and a six) before holing out to Scott Arthur to give Matthew Lewis another wicket on route to figures of 2 for 38, but Gary James supported skipper Hicks with 21 not out (a four and a six) to help post a huge 231 for 5.

As so often, Cresselly’s reply then centred around opener Neal Williams who hit 11 fours in his 74 to help his side to 160 for 5, but when he was then caught by Keegan Codd off Summons home hopes faded.

Before that Robert Hood had removed Scott Arthur (14) after three early fours and No 3 Jamie Goldsworthy had hit five fours in his 33 before falling to Keegan Codd.

Steffan Jenkins (10), Phil Cole (15) and Matthew Lewis (14) also chipped in and despite being left with too much to do, Morgan Lewis (29 not out) and Neil Gregory (7 not out) put on an unbeaten 40 for the seventh wicket to at least take The Doves to 200.

For Johnston, Hood finished with 2 for 46, Codd 1 for 35, Summons 2 for 25 and James 1 for 33.
And if The Tigers beat Laugharne next week, they will seal a return back to Division 2.

Another vital win for Narberth

Haverfordwest 3rds (158 all out) lost to Narberth 2nds (160 for 6) by 4 wickets

Matthew Vaughan made 41 as The Town hit 158 all out, their highest score of the season, but the visitors chased it down with six wickets in hand.

Alongside Vaughan’s knock there was 34 from Sohail Siddiqui and 27 from Mohammed Asher, while Jake Thomas (3 for 30) and Richard Howell (2 for 24) topped the bowling figures.

And then  for Narberth, there were crucial top order contributions from Mick Haltam (34), Rob Nicholas (30), and David Jones (29), while Richard Prout (26 not out) kept composed to help complete the win.

The hosts could at least reflect on a morale boosting seven points though, as Vaughan (1 for 33), Siddiqui (2 for 13), and Will Phillips (2 for 39) bowled well.

Jack Jones - runs and wickets for LlanrhianJack and Ben Jones ensured there were no hiccups in Llanrhian’s run chase after Neyland 2nds had been dismissed for 104.

It was Daf Williams who did the initial damage with three early wickets, removing opener Lewis Page for a duck and then his partner Rhys Power (14) after he’d hit three early fours.

Williams also saw off Joe Campodonic (7) while Jack Jones dismissed Luke Ryan (0) and Kieran Arran (8) to leave Neyland 29 for 5.

From there they rallied a bit though, skipper Paul Miller hitting five fours in his 26 before nicking behind off Williams while Jack John had three boundaries in his 16.

He was bowled by Gary Reynolds though who then cleaned up the tail with 3 for 16 alongside the hauls of Williams (4 for 36) and Jones (2 for 36), while there was also a wicket for Tom Clarke.

The visitors did then give themselves a glimmer, Jamie Smith having Paul Lewis caught for 12 (two fours) by Page, and Tom Pritchard bowling Jonathan Strawbridge (7).

But at 32 for 2 the Jones duo took command, Jack hitting seven fours and a six to make 51 not out and Ben stroking three boundaries in his unbeaten 27, as the target was reached in the 23rd over.

Tish 2nds turned in a top bowling display for Darren Hawkins shone with the bat to leave Llangwm 2nds staring at relegation.

Toby Asson’s team now need to win at least two of their last three games to have a hope of survival after being all out for 110 at Pill Parks.

It was only opener Dom Asson (28) and No 3 Shaun Waller (29) who impressed after Huw Brock (6) was clean bowled by Lenny Rees early on.

But then Asson was skittled by Robbie Thomas and Waller went the same way to Stuart Carpenter, and after that the innings fell apart.

Thomas Williams impressed as he took 3 for 16 in just 4.2 overs, while Thomas finished with 2 for 3 in four overs, Lenny Rees 1 for 30, Olly Rees 1 for 27, and Carpenter 2 for 14 alongside a run out.

Kevin Bowen (27) was the only wicket to fall in the reply as he was caught by Charlie Wilson to give Hu Brock (1 for 24) a wicket, but Hawkins hammered 41 not out with Steve Williams unbeaten on 31 as Tish did the job inside 30 overs.

Davies hit 102 not out in his side’s 217 for 2, and the home side never got close as they fell to 107 all out.
Alongside Davies there was 34 from Lewys Gibby and skipper Simon Bevan played the perfect anchor with 39 not out, as Rob Couzens (1 for 15) toiled away with his off spin for Laugharne.

Couzens also led the fight with the bat with 43, and Callum Collins-Davies made 20, but Davies completed a good personal day with 2 for 9.

Jack Corbett (2 for 20) and Geraint Shaw (2 for 25) were also in the wickets to help Stackpole seal maximum points and go sixth in the table.
