Matthew Kiff (Captain)
Aged 32
Roof truss designer
Matthew took over the captaincy last season and led Llangwm to promotion – and his aim of consolidating first division status this campaign has been exceeded with a top three place at the time of going to press. This is his second Bowl final and he is looking for a first success, with his undoubted leadership skills augmented by his powerful batting with 60 against Neyland and 41 versus Saundersfoot in the league alongside some steady bowling spells.
William Beresford
37
Accountant
William has been first choice wicket-keeper for a number of years and has regularly opened the batting as an added bonus, with his ability to play a wide range of strokes but also to score runs as a real pace to put opposition bowlers and fielders under real pressure. Easily one of the more laid-back characters in the Llangwm side, William is held in high regard by opposing attacks and, playing in his third final, will be looking to make a real impact.
Steve Inward
31
Bricklayer
A classy left-handed opening bat who missed out on a previous final but is determined to make it in 2022 and hoping to follow up his unbeaten 92 not out against Lawrenny and 32 versus Carew in earlier rounds. Steve played for the West of England and English Schools, did well ‘up the line’ and then came home to finish off a fantastic career which included a magnificent 100 for Pembrokeshire under the lights at Sophia Gardens. Surely one of the best players to emerge from the county over the last 20 years and with plenty of experience with Glamorgan Seconds as further proof of his calibre.
Joseph Kiff
29
Floor fitter
Joe is one of the most attacking left-handed batsmen in the county who has the ability to turn a game on its head with his big shots, especially over long and mid-on. Played a key role in this year’s cup run with 27 against Tish, 29 against Carew and a vital 64 in the semi-final against Lawrenny. He can also bowl if required but rarely gets the chance since big brother Matthew took over the captaincy. A former captain himself and a county player, Joe is always ready to give advice to his skipper! This will be his second final.
Steve Mills
30
Refuse collector
Steve has also played for Johnston and Carmarthen Wanderers but is now settled as a key all-rounder at Pill Parks who has featured really well in this season’s run to the final. He claimed wickets against Tish (4 for 28) and Carew (2 for 47) – with runs against Carew (30) and Lawrenny (31 not out). Other useful league performances include 5 for 24 and 90 runs against Pembroke Dock, plus 50 not out versus Haverfordwest. He is no slouch in the field either and he will be eager to make an impression in this his first final!
Noah Davies
21
Apprentice process operator
One of the youngsters in the team but already very experienced after so much time already in the first team, following in the footsteps of his father Mark and grandad Dai as early starters. Regularly opens the bowling from the bottom end at Pill Parks and with success already as a left-handed batsman which include 27 against Tish in the early rounds, plus league knocks that include 104 and 66 against Saundersfoot. When he bowls he switches to being a right- hander and claimed a vital 4 for 16 against Neyland, alongside a number of other wickets on a regular basis.
Chris Inward
35
Power station worker
Another battling all-rounder in the true ‘Inward mould’ with his ability to use his pace bowling to good effect and to hit big in a run chase. He certainly proved his worth with the ball in previous rounds against 2 for 28 against Carew and three more wickets when they beat Lawrenny. He is also a former club captain and has played for Pembrokeshire and there is no more big-hearted player in the county and he would love to feature in the final with both bat and ball.
Luke Brock
33
Carpenter
This will be Luke’s first final and he has the ability to make a real impact with his all-round capability with bat and ball – and as one of the best fielders in the team as he lurks in the covers. Arguably one of the more under-rated cricketers in the first division as a right arm spin bowler and left-handed middle order batsman who can cause havoc with his seemingly effortless ability to send the ball over the boundary rope!
David Lewis
30
Farmer
David plays at wicket-keeper on occasions but is also regarded as one of the better fielders in the team, with a strong throw from the deep. He is also a useful left-handed batsman with a top score of 48 not out against Carew. Son of Skyrme, one of Llangwm’s biggest supporters, and another grandson of local legend Dai Davies.
Ollie Davies
30
Plumber
A very useful all-rounder with bat and ball who has previously served the club well as captain and eager to play in his first final after being out injured when Llangwm last appeared. Another very useful all-rounder who can ball his spell accurately and has the ability to score quickly if he gets his eye in. Another hugely respected character who has the reputation of being a bit of a joker but who is good at keeping spirits high when the going gets tough.
Joe Phillips
17
Student
Made his Llangwm senior debut at 14 and already played a key part for the county seniors against the MCC. He is a very good fast bowler who can also bat well, as he proved in that game. Took wickets against Carew and Lawrenny in earlier rounds and was also chosen as man of the match in the Ormond Youth Cup Final as he played for Hook alongside brother Jack. Certainly one to watch out for over many years to come!.
Toby Asson
23
Valero - Petrochemical Lab Technician
Toby is a very versatile player with bests of 50 and 4-12 for Llangwm Firsts, plus top performances of 101 and 7-13 for the seconds. He helped win the Welsh Cup in 2018 with the Cleddau Crusaders. Got his love of cricket from his mum (Pam Asson, who’s still playing ladies cricket aged 50) and his grandfather, Barry Childs. He is in the squad alongside his younger brother Dom Asson.
Dom Asson
17
Student
If Dom gets the call this would be his first final and he is certainly a young player to watch out for in the future. He is a right arm spin bowler who has helped the first team out on a number of occasions and never let them down because he is also a useful batsman who is quickly developing his skills in this area – and sharp in the field as an extra bonus!
