Win doubles for Hook and Cresselly

 
The second round in the new season saw four matches being played and there were two easy wins for a very strong Hook team and two for Cresselly, who had a comfortable win against newcomers Pembroke but had a little bit of a scare against Neyland.
 

Match One: Hook (114-1) beat Pembroke B (46-4)

 
Hook were asked to bat first and Jemma Phillips, Kate Farr and Sam Rossiter all batted well before having to retire when they reached 25 and their large eight-over total included ten fours and 15 threes as they ran well between the wickets. Kasey Arran also chipped in with 14 before she was well caught by Bryony Shallcross.
 
Jess Rees (not to be confused with the Cresselly player of the same name) was the only successful Pembroke bowler but Chloe Jones, Karen Evans and Freya McMillen all had their first experience of the ball in a match.
 
Karen Evans was also the only batsman in double figures alongside 21 extras but there were only seven threes and no boundaries in their total, something that coaches Jack Harries and Luke Butler will be looking to build on.

Cresselly (93-2) beat Pembroke B (39-6)

 
Pembroke B also had a testing time in the evening’s second match when Cresselly batted first and reached another big score as Jess Lewis reached 26 before retiring and there were useful undefeated innings by Ava Midgley (17) and Ffion Ashman (16), plus 16 extras as Freya Millican was the sole wicket-taker for Pembroke.
 
But once again the Pembroke B batters found it hard going against Claire Lewis (2 for 4) and Lucy Johnson bowled only one over, from which there were no runs, and other miserly spells from Ffion Ashman and Ava Midgley so that only Bryony Shallcross managed double figures.
 
Cresselly: Jess Lewis 26* & 1-15, Ava Midgley 17no, Ffion Ashman 16no, Claire Lewis 2-4
Pembroke B: Bryony Shallcross 15no, Freya Millican 1-25.

Hook (103-1) beat Neyland (42-5)

 
Hook followed up their earlier three-figure score against Pembroke B with another big win against Neyland after they had batted first and the runs flowed from Kacey Arran, Jemma Phillips, Sam Rossiter and Paul Rees as Maddie Potter was the pick of the Neyland bowlers with 1 for 24.
 
Maddie also topped their batting to show how much she has improved but Maisy Davies (1 for 5) joined the other Cresselly bowlers in keeping things tight as Cresselly won by 61 runs.

Cresselly (68-5) beat Neyland (52-6)

 
After their previous big win Cresselly were expected to stroll to victory against Neyland but had something of a shock as they were restricted to only 68 for 5 but managed to get home by 16 runs as their bowlers redressed the balance.
 
Jess Lewis and Zoe Minnett who were the only Cresselly batsmen to look comfortable against Maddie Potter, who grabbed an impressive 2 for 16, as the rest of the Neyland team bowled and fielded really well.
 
Kelly Midgely batted really well in the Neyland reply with 25 and Zoe Minnett gave vital late support with 14 not out but 3 for 13 from Lucy Johnson saw Cresselly home – but well done Neyland for battling so hard!
