Match One – Pembs Vets A (123 for 4) lost to Hundleton (125 for3)

David Lockyer - played well for HundletonNeal Williams - more runs for the Pembs Vets AThe first match of the evening was a high-scoring tussle between The Vets A and Hundleton, where the old timers set a huge target, assisted by a huge score from ’Mr Extras’ of 28 – but Hundleton did really well in chasing it down as they hit 16 from the first five balls of the last of their allotted ten overs to take the verdict.

The Vets B made a solid start and at the half-way stage stood at 55 for 1 as Andrew Williams was run out for 11 and Kevin Bowen and Neal Williams looked in good form before both retired at the compulsory 25 mark.

But then they lost three quick wickets as Stu Midgley had Rob Nicholas (3) stumped by Dylan Davies and Ian Milsom caught by Rob Walkey for a duck. Then Mark Hicks was bowled by Craig Williamson for a duck and that brought back run-makers Bowen and Nicholas, who scored big in the final overs, assisted by 24 wides in the extras column
Bowen finished on 40 not out and Williams was undefeated on 41, with a total of one six, three fours and 22 threes to prove their running between the wickets belied their age!

Hundleton made an excellent start to their reply as 48 runs came in the first four overs and another 23 were added in the fifth over as Dave Lockyer (29), Rob Walkey (27) and Dylan Davies (25) were not out and shared  six sixes and five fours.

They lost Stuart Midgley (6) when he was bowled by Bowen, who also caught Craig Williamson (19) before Ava Midgley saw Hundleton home with 12 not out alongside only six extras.

Match Two – Pembroke (73 all out) lost to Hook (74 for 1)

Jack Harries - led Pembroke by exampleDafydd Bowen - runs and wickets for Hook veteranThere were far fewer runs in Match Two as Pembroke were bowled out for a disappointing 73 and Hook showed they had learned a lot from the previous matches as they reached 74 for 1 in only 7.4 overs.

Pembroke skipper Jack Harries again topped their batting he scored 36 in his two visits to the crease before he was caught by Lewis Miller off Daf Bowen – but Sam Davies, Jon Rogers and Andrew Price could muster just a single between them as they were respectively run out, removed by Harry Makepeace from another Miller catch, and caught and bowled by veteran skipper Bowen in his 2 for 10 spell.

Luke Butler managed 10 runs before he was adjudged lbw to Owen Phelps whilst Jack Tomlinson brought some respectability to the total from his No 6 berth with a late 20 runs as Pembroke had some big hitting with three sixes and five fours but lost wickets too easily.
Liam Miller and Daf Bowen then gave Hook a very good start before Bowen departed for 23, bowled by Sam Davies, and Miller (27) retired.

Then Aled Phelps (16 not out) and Makepeace (3 not out) saw Hook home as they only managed four boundaries but used their youthful speed to run 15 threes.

Match Three - Pembs Vets B (77 for 6) lost to Burton (79 for 3)

Simon Holliday - batted well for the Vets BToby Hayman -batted well for BurtonPembrokeshire Vets A were able to field a strong side to play Burton but, Simon Holliday apart, rarely looked likely to make the big score of which they are capable as their opponents bowled and fielded well.

Paul Webb (11) and Alan Webster (13) started well but got run out and when Holliday eventually returned after retiring on 25 he became another run out victim with 32 to his name.

Steve Thornton was caught by Harry Owen off Morgan Scale for a duck, Mike Williams (9) and Matthew Vaughan (7) were dismissed by Dan Ridge and Jack Davies with catches by Richard James and Davies himself and The Vets B were dismissed for 77.

Burton also suffered from the ‘run out bug’ as Jack Davies (21), Dan Ridge (9) and Harry Owen (7) came and went but Toby Hayman hit a six in his 26 before he retired  and Richard James (9) and Morgan Scale (3) were undefeated as they reached their target with three wickets and 16 balls still in hand.
