In Wednesday’s matches there were two good wins for Carew as they are coming to terms well with the indoor game, with Haverfordwest winning one match but losing the other to Pembroke Dock as they were unable to score the four runs needed to tie off the very last ball of the night!

It wasn’t a successful night for Pembroke as their A team lost their only game and their B team lost both, but the second string had an amazing nine players available at The Hub to show the enthusiasm that can only bring success as they play more.

There were also some excellent individual performances and a great feature was again the fact that so many of the fellers were happy to help with the umpiring and scoring.

Carew

Match One – Carew (87 for 0) beat Pembroke A (61 for 3)

Lily Buckle retired with 26 from 11 deliveriesNicole White - scored 27 off 21 balls for PembrokeCarew demonstrated their batting strength against Pembroke A as they reached 87 without losing a single wicket in their allotted eight overs, despite their opponents’ commitment in the field and then restricted Pembroke to a creditable 61 for 3 wickets and victory by 26 runs.

Carew’s innings got off to a terrific start as Lily Buckle retired with 26 from 11 deliveries, including two excellent sixes, and Kate Chandler-Hall did the same with a six in her 27, made from 18 balls.

Jackie Graham then contributed 16 not out and Lily Cole scored three not out from the only ball she faced and there were 15 extras to boost their tally.

Pembroke ANicole White then led the Pembroke response with 27 off 21 balls but no-one else was able to stay with her long as Leanne Panton (6), Ginny Davies (0) and Hollie Allen (0) were all run out – but Bobbie Neale batted well for her 13 not out.

All the Carew bowlers maintained an accurate line and length, with Samara Hicks, Lily Buckle and Kate Chandler-Hall bowling particularly miserly spells.

Haverfordwest

Match Two - Haverfordwest (80 for 1) beat Pembroke B (50 all out)

Awen Prysor - retired on 25 from 14 deliveriesHaverfordwest began their evening with a comfortable win over Pembroke B as they showed their batting strength to record a decent score and then bowled and fielded well as Angie Tinley claimed 3 for 3 from her two overs, one of which was a maiden!

Nia Williams (12 runs from four balls)) and Awen Prysor (retired on 25 from 14 deliveries) started and showed their skill at running between the wickets, and then Leila Egelstaff (19 not out) and Beckie Wadia (13 not out, including two fours) were assisted by 11 extras in taking The Town Ladies to a challenging total.

Pembroke B also made a steady start via Sophie White (11) and Jess Lewis (14) but then Angie Tinley arrived in the attack and changed matters completely as she claimed 3 for 3 in her two overs, the second as reward for her accuracy as well as her wicket-taking skills in removing Nirvana Thomas (4), Erin McMillan (0) and Ann Millican (7).

Sophie Jelley was run out for 9 after starting well and Pembroke B found themselves still 30 runs adrift at the end of their innings.

Pembroke B

Match Three – Carew (87 for 4) beat Pembroke B (45 all out)

Kate Chandler-Hall - blitzed an impressive 29 in just 11 deliveriesCarew made it a win double over Pembroke as they comfortably accounted from the Treleet Club’s B strong after again batting first and then restricting the opposition when they fielded really well and Kate Chandler-Hall shone with the ball as well as the bat.

Samara Hicks (11) and Lily Buckle (who rapped two fours as she sped to 30 not out in only 14 balls after retiring earlier on) provided the platform for a healthy Carew tally and Chandler-Hall blitzed an impressive 29 in just 11 deliveries (including two fours and a six) before she was bowled by Jess Lewis, who joined Chloe Jones as the pick of the Pembroke bowlers.

As Carew chased late runs they had Lily Cole (0) and Hollie Griffiths (9) run out but Pembroke deserve credit for battling away – and only conceding five extras as proof of their accuracy with the ball.

Chloe Jones batted really well when Pembroke started their reply and she struck three fours in her excellent 25 from 19 balls. F Millican (11) also batted well but the ubiquitous Kate Chandler-Hall broke the back of the Pembroke innings with 3 for 5 to be the outstanding player of the evening and Pembroke finished on 45 all out, including 11 extras.

Match Four – Haverfordwest (93 for 1) lost to Pembroke Dock (97 for 3)

Pembroke DockThere was no doubt about the most competitive contest of the evening as  Pembroke Dock scored 97 for 3, the highest score of the night, and it looked as if Haverfordwest might chase it down as they needed 11 off the final over.

That reduced to six off the final deliver as Lana Jones bowled well until there was a wide called that meant Haverfordwest could snatch a tie with a boundary but Jones kept cool to bowl a good last ball and The Dock were victorious!

The Dock’s big total owed a great deal to the batting prowess of Chloe Hughes, who scored a lovely 39 not out from 25 balls, including three fours, ably assisted by Sian James (retired on 26)  and Rachael Sander, who joined the fray at No 6 and struck 21 not out in double-quick time.

Beckie Wadia was the only wicket-taker for The Town Ladies in her 1-18 stint but Angie Tinley and Awen Prysor also gave little away.

Prysor also featured early on with the bat as she retired on 27 and although Leah Ward (14) was run out, Nia Williams also chipped in with a classy 27 before retiring – and the game reached that interesting climax as Tinley (12 not out) and Leila Egelstaff (7 not out) edged their side ever closer.

But then came that final over by Lana Jones which was a good one and swayed the game The Dock’s way – leaving them to celebrate and The Town to just miss out on the night!
