Pembrokeshire Primary Schools Football - Tom Yeoman Shield:
County start with a share of the spoils
Pembrokeshire Primary Schools Under 11's Football Squad started off their 2012-13 campaign at Haverfordwest AFC by sharing the points with Carmarthen Schools.
Pembrokeshire A 1 - Carmarthen A 1
Pembs started brightly with Nathan Froment running well up front, whilst Osian Hill and Kian Lee took players on and Darren Gibson controlled the midfield. The defence of Joshua Hardman, captain Rhys Morgan and Thomas Davies tackled well as Dylan Noot also had a good debut in the Pembs goal.
Both sides played some lovely football and Carmarthen took the lead when a lack of communication between players meant the ball wasn't cleared. Minutes later Gibson put Pembs back level with a good finish.
In the second half Nieve Jenkins, Joshua Williams and Tom Mansbridge came and created several scoring chances. Jenkins hit the post late on in to the game with a long range shot and the match ended up all square.
Pembrokeshire A 1 - Carmarthen B 2
The second game saw some good passing football as the whole squad worked well. Lee put Pembs ahead, but Carmarthen equalised with a stunning strike from the halfway line which was suitably applauded by the players and the large crowd. The match could have gone either way but a poor clearance by Pembs gave Carmarthen the opportunity to win the game.
Pembrokeshire B 1 - Carmarthen B 1
Torin Nicolson got Pembs off to a good start scoring from close range against a lively Carmarthenshire attack who piled on the pressure to bring out good saves from Rhys Grigg before equalising. Joe Pritchard, Joe Williams and James Gardner stood firm in defence to keep the score line down.
The second half was a tense affair with all the Pembs squad working hard to get an important result. Harry Jones and Jacob Hipkiss ran well and Tate Lawrence covered a lot of ground. Pembs defended well to keep the score line level.
Pembs B 5 - Carmarthen A 1
The first half was fairly even until Seamus Drake put Pembs into the lead. The visitors
scored a freak own goal before Pembs fired in four more goals to finish with an impressive 5-1 score line. Captain Carl Thomas added the second after a good individual run with Hipkiss and Williams putting Pembs further ahead. Jaden Chapman rounded off the game with a strong shot.
