Sully and Woodrow grab goals to earn Bluebirds victory
Bryntirion Athletic 0 – Haverfordwest County 2
A goal in each half by Chris O’Sullivan and substitute Nicky Woodrow secured a thoroughly deserved victory at Bryntirion Athletic.
This was the Bluebirds 12th win of the season as they move up to fourth in the table and are now four points behind leaders Taffs Well, who drew 1-1 at home with Cambrian & Clydach on Friday night.
Slow start
The Bluebirds led 1-0 at half time despite a slow start at Bryntirion Park.
The only goal of the first period was scored in the 33rd minute when the home side’s left back handled the ball in the box and the Bluebirds were awarded a penalty. Chris O’Sullivan took responsibility and drilled home from 12 yards.
The visitors should have added a second goal when centre back Liam Hancock headed over the crossbar from a move that was created by a dangerous free-kick delivered in the box.
After the break the Bluebirds played well on a bobbly surface and Adam Raymond was unlucky not to score when his powerful right foot shot cannoned off the crossbar.
Woodrow scores
But the Bluebirds clinched the points when super sub Nicky Woodrow came off the bench to strike a well-taken goal.
Manager Micky Ellis was delighted that his team returned to winning ways after some indifferent results at home saw them off the title pace, but now they are back on track with seven away games to go until the season comes to a conclusion.
