Bluebirds held to a frustrating draw by The Bulldogs20th April 2013

Ton Pentre 1 – Haverfordwest County 1

Haverfordwest County have slipped to sixth in the table after picking up their second successive frustrating away draw, this time at Ton Pentre.

The Bluebirds have picked up just two points from their last two outings, dropping four points in their quest to win the title.

Top of the table Taffs Well are currently six points ahead of the Bluebirds, but have played one more game, as the season is heading for a nervous climax.

Lewis strikes

The visitors’ cause wasn’t helped as Sean Pemberton left the pitch with a groin strain and was replaced by Rob Morgans.

Ritchie Lewis gave the visitors the lead in the 55th minute, the wide sided midfielder latched onto a route-one ball from centre back Lee Bevan, and Lewis showed good composure to find the back of the net.

However, The Bulldogs levelled matters in the 74th minute, some naïve defending from a long throw-in inside the box left striker John Williams to score with an easy far post tap-in.

Switched off

Assistant Bluebirds manager Wayne Jones said, “We really should have killed this one off. Ritchie took his goal brilliantly, but then we switched off and allowed them back in the game with a soft goal. It’s frustrating but we got to win our next match to keep us in the mix.”

Haverfordwest County play at second from bottom Tata Steel this Tuesday, April 23rd, looking to secure three precious points.

Haverfordwest County: Peter Blain; Ricky Watts; Antonio Fuccuito; Lee Bevan; Phil Cattlin; Chris O’Sullivan; Sean Pemberton; Owen James; Jack Christopher; Adam Raymond, Ritchie Lewis. Substitutes: Nicky Woodrow; Rob Morgans; Anton Owens.
