Top futsal in front of large crowds – now played well by Haverfordwest County Academy!
In this winter of wind, rain and worse, where football on sodden outdoor surfaces has been
somewhat limited, it is pleasing on PembrokeshireSport.co.uk to report on an initial successful football story.
The FAW backed FUTSAL initiative involving Academies from all around the country has resulted in the Haverfordwest County U14 squad qualifying for the All Wales’ Finals to be
held in Cardiff on Sunday 9th March.
On each of four Sundays during December and January, Haverfordwest played against Aberystwyth, Afan Lido, Carmarthen and Llanelli on a round robin basis in games of 16 minute duration in this fast paced, technical and intensive 5-aside based indoor game.
Superb play brings success
Their record of 12 wins, one draw and three defeats in their allocated 16 matches meant that they were the victors in the South West Group of this tournament.
As a result, the squad are looking forward to the finals in a couple of weeks and we are confident they will give a good account of themselves and fly the Pembrokeshire flag with pride
The team trains in the Academy each Friday at 6.00 p.m. on the AstroTurf at Sir Thomas Picton School, Haverfordwest. This team has already won one Welsh Academy Cup for Haverfordwest County Football Academy at Under 12 and they are always capable of producing a top performance.
