Morgan and Julien James

A father and son duo from Haverfordwest are preparing to travel to Sao Paulo, in Brazil, after winning an amazing prize in a World Cup competition run  by McDonalds.
Morgan and Julian are off on the trip of a lifetime
Julian James, who is Safeguarding Officer with Merlins Bridge Juniors, entered the competition for his son Morgan, who is nine years old and plays for Merlins Bridge Juniors.

The competition was for one lucky child to be an Official Player Escort (aged 6-10) at the 2014 FIFA World Cup this summer.  The child, accompanied by their parent/guardian, will not only fly to Brazil, but will stay for three nights, taking in the cultural attractions amidst the excitement of the world's biggest sporting tournament.

Walking out as a team mascot

This will culminate in them walking out on to the pitch, holding the hand of an England hero before the team plays Uruguay.

“I entered the competition a couple of weeks ago,” said Julian, “and when I had a phone call I must admit I thought it was a friend pulling my leg but then came written confirmation so Morgan and I are both over the moon about it!

“We will fly out to Sao Paulo on the 17th June and Morgan, who is 9, plays football for Merlins Bridge Juniors and is a Manchester United fan.  I have requested he walks out with Rooney, but it's the luck of the draw I'm afraid!”

There can’t be a football lover in our county who wouldn’t feel a twinge of envy at the trip of a lifetime to be undertaken by Morgan and Julian James and we wish them a great time cheering on England in the 2014 World Cup Finals!
